Sr. Digital Communications Specialist

The Role

The Sr. Digital Communications Specialist will have the unique opportunity of shaping EM’s digital effectiveness as the organization grows under new leadership. Working closely with the Executive Director, our Communications Specialist will play a major role in redefining EM’s digital communication strategy.

The position’s major priorities are to develop, manage, and track EM’s communications, including web content, social media, email, and more. During election cycles, the Specialist will lead EM’s digital campaigns to help elect visionary EM-endorsed candidates.

The right candidate will be an excellent writer who can frame issues with unbiased facts and tell compelling stories to galvanize others to take action. In addition, the right candidate will be a highly collaborative individual who can work in a small team and with partner organizations to create effective and engaging content.


Communications Strategy

Collaborate with Executive Director to develop a comprehensive communications strategy that drives EM’s organization-wide goals

Create talking points and strategic messages to establish positions on key issues and policies

Strengthen and build EM’s brand identity and visibility

Social Media & Web Content Creation

Develop and implement a master content calendar aligned to communications strategy

Execute social media campaign, digital advertising, and email communications

Monitor and report on SEO and SEM performance for all web properties

Monitor conversations on social media and manage responses, particularly for breaking news and timely issues

Support partner organizations, identifying opportunities to connect and share stories

Data Analytics

Measure user engagement by monitoring online traffic for website, social media, and email communications

Develop priorities, goals, and targets for audience engagement

Produce regular analytics reports to identify trends and drive internal driving decision-making

Monitor search engine optimization for website

Project Management & Website Administration

Serve as Project Manager for ongoing website design, development, integration, including projects with third-party vendors

Assign user roles and permissions for website and other online communications platforms

Perform regular checks to ensure smooth functioning of all technical aspects

Maintain site security by conducting regular checks, monitoring security, and reviewing emergency backup procedures.


2-5 years of digital communications/marketing experience

Undergraduate degree in communications, journalism, public relations, writing or related area

Understanding of issues in K-12 public education

Demonstrated social media expertise with experience driving strategy and executing campaigns

Experience with content management systems, and working knowledge of HTML and CSS

Expertise in email marketing (Campaign Monitor and MailChimp experience a big plus)

Knowledge of Google analytics and Google AdWords

Proficiency in Microsoft Office, PowerPoint and Photoshop

Strong writing, editing and proofreading skills

Ability to interpret, analyze, and present statistical data

Ability to develop and executive on strategies to reach organization-wide goals

Ability to thrive in a focused working environment, independently under minimal supervision and collaboratively within a small team

Ability to prioritize and manage multiple responsibilities effectively and with attention to detail

Flexibility to work beyond standard workday on occasion
