Software Engineering Manager

The Software Engineer Manager is responsible for the production of scalable web-based platforms. This position will have the opportunity to shape the direction, architecture, execution and outcomes of ASU Prep’s content and curriculum platforms.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor's degree in a technical or related field.

5 years’ experience leading software development teams.

8-13 years of proven working experience in a Web Developer role with active involvement throughout development.

Extensive experience as a full stack developer with capabilities on the back-end, front-end, deployment and maintenance of complex web applications.

Significant experience working with cross-disciplinary teams such as UX, Design, Operations, Products, etc.

Comfortable working with, communicating and presenting to executive leadership

Any equivalent combination of experience, training, and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Works with development teams and product managers to ideate software solutions

Works with and mentor junior developers to create common processes and maintain development standards

Participates in team growth through hiring, mentoring, and capacity planning with the CTO and other product directors

Formulates and defines system scope and objectives through research and fact-finding to develop or modify moderately complex information systems.

Prepares detailed specifications from which programs will be written.

Designs, codes, tests, debugs, documents, and maintains software following the organization’s software development life cycle (SDLC) methodology.

Responsible for software integration, external interface development and technical documentation.

Designs and develops some aspects of data conversion

Follows detailed functional and technical specifications to configure/code enhancements and bug fixes.

Writes and maintains documentation to describe program development, logic, coding, testing, changes, and corrections.

Troubleshoots, documents and assists in the resolution of technical issues

Produce workable, efficient code that meets technical specifications.

Unit and system test his/her own code as well as the code of co-workers.

Document functional and technical solutions adhering to standard operating procedures.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Directly supervises employees. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include decisions related to selection, performance appraisal, discipline and salary recommendations.

Build strong and empowered teams by providing direction, delegation, counsel, mentoring and expertise to individual team leads, while retaining overall responsibility and accountability for results.

Promote and encourage the development, training and promotion of staff members to assure the perpetuation of a professional and competent workforce.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Proven experience as a Full Stack Developer

Experience developing web applications for desktop and mobile

Significant experience with PHP, Python, Java, SQL

Significant experience writing and delivering front end code (HTML/ CSS, JavaScript, XML, React, VueJS)

Experience deploying applications into scalable server and serverless environments such as AWS, Google Cloud, etc.

Excellent leadership, teamwork and organizational skills

Excellent verbal and written communication in addition to persuasively clear and concise presentation skills.

Exceptional strategic, analytical and critical thinking skills with demonstrated ability to interact with diverse audiences.

Demonstrated ability to meet quantitative and qualitative objectives.

Exceptional project management skills including the ability to handle diverse tasks simultaneous to meeting aggressive project timelines and producing high-quality results.

Highly organized, detail-oriented and results-driven focus; highly responsive to feedback and collaboration.

Knowledge of K-12 school setting

Experience with developing software for Education and relevant experience such as LTI, SCORM, XAPI, etc.

Occasional travel may be required for site visits, meetings, trainings and/or conferences. Locations may vary and may require overnight stays.
