Senior Software Engineer (Front End)

WHAT IS THIS ROLE ABOUT?

As our new Sr. Front End Software Engineer, you will join our growing Development team in building VHL’s unique and industry leading online language education products.

OUR TECHNOLOGY STACK

• Languages/Frameworks: Ruby/Rails, JS, Vue
• Persistence: MySQL, Postgres, Redis, ElasticSearch
• Hosting: AWS

IN THIS ROLE YOU WILL:

• Participate in all aspects of the software development lifecycle - from project planning and design, to implementation and release
• Collaborate with team members to deliver development projects on time and with efficiency

YOU MUST HAVE(MINIMUM REQUIRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE)

• BA/BS in computer science or other related field, or equivalent experience required
• 4+ years professional experience with Ruby on Rails, Java, or Python required
• 1+ years of experience building and deploying high-capacity applications in cloud environments (AWS or GCP) required
• 1+ year(s) experience using source code management systems (i.e. Git/Github, or similar) required

IDEAL IF YOU HAVE or ARE(PREFERRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE)

• A strong understanding of how to architect solutions for scalability and performance
• Experience with SQL, Postgres, Redis, Elasticsearch and command line *nix environments
• Experience in ed-tech, education, language-learning or similar industries
• Experience with reactive frameworks (i.e. Vue, React, etc.)
• Mentor level knowledge of modern front-end techniques and JavaScript, CSS, HTML
• A deep understanding of modern front-end tooling (i.e. Node, NPM/Yarn, Webpack)
• Competency with CSS and various CSS conventions (i.e. BEM, OOCSS, CSS utilities)
• Familiarity with Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) and best practices for meeting 2.1 AA compliance

LOCATION

Remote: This role is 100% remote and requires current residence in the United States of America. Our ideal candidate will reside within close proximity to the Boston, MA office location.
