Senior Payroll Specialist (San Mateo, CA)

IXL Learning, a leading edtech company with products used by over 12 million students worldwide, is looking for a Senior Payroll Specialist to support the payroll functions. In this role you will work closely with the Payroll Lead and the HR team to execute payroll processing. The successful Senior Payroll Specialist ensures the accuracy of preliminary and final payroll reports, timesheets, spreadsheets, and funds distribution; responds to inquiries and/or request for data and/or reports; and provides timely and accurate payroll production, and demonstrate the ability to use payroll knowledge and previous experience to add value to a fast-paced, rapidly changing, and high-growth company!

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING

  • Process bi-weekly payroll and audit payroll records
  • Process payroll for foreign locations by working with payroll service providers
  • Prepare manual payroll checks for employees who do not have direct deposit
  • Review and verify new hire data
  • Review form W-4, state and local tax elections for payroll tax setup and deductions
  • Review timecard punch reports for hourly employees
  • Process payroll and benefit deductions for employees
  • Maintain and document all payroll records, including new hires and terminations
  • Reconcile general ledger with regards to payroll transactions
  • Respond to employee inquiries regarding payroll issues or concerns on form W-2
  • Keep current with the guidance on taxation of salaries and benefits in various states
  • Participate in payroll process improvement and implementation of payroll service
  • Assist in annual 401k and financial statement audit on payroll

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

  • Bachelor’s Degree required, a concentration in Accounting is a plus
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in payroll
  • Experience with ADP or Workday a plus
  • Experience with international payroll a plus
  • Experience with payroll processing and payroll tax filings
  • Detail-oriented and exceptionally organized
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Energetic, mature, positive person who thrives on working independently
  • Ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment with little supervision
  • Maintain confidentiality in all aspects of employee and company information
  • Experienced with Microsoft Word and Excel
