Senior Linux Infrastructure Engineer, Rosetta Stone (Remote)

IXL Learning, a leading edtech company with products used by 13 million students worldwide, is seeking a Senior Linux Infrastructure Engineer to join our Rosetta Stone Product Reliability and Operations (PROps) team. On this team, you will provide engineering support for our production environment and the deployment pipeline for our applications. Using server infrastructure based in major cloud providers and also colocation facilities, you’ll assist in delivering a variety of products in education, enterprise, and consumer markets.

Our ideal candidate will be detail-oriented and have deep experience with large-scale Linux (Ubuntu/Debian) systems administration and infrastructure. You will also be skilled in Chef or a similar system, monitoring and alerting best practices, and working effectively in a Kanban environment. Any related experience, particularly in containerized delivery, build pipeline, and MySQL DBA expertise is a plus.

This is a full time position in either our Raleigh, NC or Harrisonburg, VA office (hybrid). Open to remote within Eastern or Central US time zones.

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING

• Engineering for multiple Kubernetes clusters
• Running a large fleet of Linux servers
• Be a subject matter expert for various product delivery technologies like load balancing, CDN, DNS, SSL termination, etc
• Design, build, and maintain scalable and robust infrastructure and services for all of our products
• Continuously improve our infrastructure
• Participate in live performance monitoring, which includes building the tools that allow us to detect and address trouble spots, as well as be part of an on-call rotation
• Troubleshoot and fix production performance and security issues
• Develop tools, procedures, and documentation to improve team efficiency and build institutional knowledge

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

• Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems or related field, or equivalent experience
• 10+ years of Linux systems administration (Debian/Ubuntu preferred) and engineering experience on internet applications, with deep understanding of common technologies like CDNs, HTTP, SSL certificates, load balancing, and DNS
• 5+ years of experience with running production, internet-facing services and with configuration management, Chef preferred
• Excellent scripting and programming skills
• Expert understanding of containerized applications - Kubernetes preferred
• Understanding of common DevOps practices
• Proficiency with Ruby/Rails, Java, or Node
• MySQL DBA experience is a plus
• Public cloud provider experience (GCP preferred)
• Knowledge of Disaster Recovery planning and implementation
