Program

The Oracle Education Foundation’s mission is to help young people develop the technical acumen, creative confidence, empathy, and grit to become outstanding designers of solutions to people’s needs and the world’s problems.

In classes provided by the Foundation, students learn coding and electrical engineering, and apply these skills to design challenges in which they design, build, and code solutions for real users. The Foundation recruits and engages Oracle Volunteers to help coach students through these classes.

Our classes teach students design thinking, a repeatable, human-centered method for creative problem solving and innovation. Students solve real-world problems using a design thinking approach similar to that taught at Stanford University’s Hasso Plattner Institute of Design (d.school).

The person in this role will work in collaboration with the Oracle Education Foundation team to develop curricula, lead instruction in classes, recruit and train Oracle Volunteer coaches prior to each class, and provide guidance and support for both coaches and students during these sessions. Classes typically span multiple days, up to two weeks, and serve 20-30 high school students. Each class focuses on a particular domain, (e.g. Chatbots, 3D Design + Production, Internet of Things, Experiential Game Design, etc). The person in this role is responsible for implementing the Foundation’s program in a way that is consistent with the Foundation's mission and core values.

While the majority of our classes take place at the Oracle Conference Center and engage students from Design Tech High School (d.tech), we are currently scaling our program to other schools and locations. As we scale, the person in this role will help develop a library of replicable 5-40-hour classes and recruit and train Oracle Volunteers across the country to deliver these classes. Additionally, this person may help identify and develop partnerships with schools and/or nonprofit organizations where the conditions for success exist.

In addition to the above, the Program Manager for Oracle Education Foundation will:

  • Collaborate with Oracle Volunteering program staff to facilitate Oracle employee volunteerism
  • Collaborate closely with Oracle Education Foundation’s Executive Director, Senior Program Manager, other Program Managers, and other stakeholders, to evolve the program over time
  • Help to ensure the relevance and appropriateness of Oracle Education Foundation’s program over time through iteration, innovation, and adaptation to changing conditions
  • Identify, purchase, and manage materials for classes
  • Collect, reflect upon, and utilize student and volunteer feedback to inform program direction and instruction
  • Recruit, train, and manage a team of adult volunteers to support each class
  • Present to and engage with prospective volunteers at various recruitment events, both in-person and online
  • Identify potential partnerships with schools, community groups, businesses, government agencies, and other organizations, as appropriate

Additional Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree; degree in education, computer science, or other relevant discipline preferred
  • 5+ years’ experience in K-12 education, maker education, coding, making or a combination
  • Willingness to try new teaching models
  • Superb detail orientation as well as vision
  • Exceptional written and verbal English language skills
  • Exceptional critical thinking and presentation skills
  • Excellent time management, organization, and operations skills
  • Proven ability to inspire and influence internal and external stakeholders at all levels
  • Demonstrated success forging, maintaining, and deepening strategic partnerships over time
  • Ability to represent Oracle Education Foundation and Oracle with passion and professionalism
  • Ability to travel 5-10% of the time
  • Technology industry experience a plus
