Position Summary

The Data, Assessment, and Accountability (DAA) division ensures that the District maintains accurate, high quality and timely data analysis about how our students, staff, schools, and the District are performing. The DAA achieves this by effectively administering assessments; supporting the production and management of student data; building and maintaining the District’s data infrastructure/integration and ensuring District-level staff and leaders can access data on the most important student outcomes; and by conducting analysis and research to support the District’s measures of teacher and leader effectiveness.

As a significant member of the DAA division, the Student Information System (SIS) Administrator is responsible for operationalizing a continuous cycle of technical improvement and feature enhancements in the new PowerSchool SIS and its associated applications. The SIS Administrator will focus on the following three areas:

Application Management: Ensuring the SIS and associated applications are available, secure and reliable,

Student Data Management: Providing leadership and direction for all projects and activities related to the production, management, and reporting/delivery of student data, and

People Development: Identifying school-based SIS and pupil accounting specialists and developing cohort support systems to keep them trained and well informed.

The ideal SIS Administrator has strong expertise in systems administration, but is also someone who recognizes that there are students and educators behind the numbers and cares deeply about system improvement.



Must possess and provide evidence of a Bachelor’s degree (or higher) from an institution accredited by the North Central Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools or an equivalent higher education agency with preferred focus in computer science, business administration, or closely related field.

  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience in managing a SIS/gradebook, or similar large-scale technical implementations
  • Experience leading change management processes that involve supporting and influencing the practices of school staff
  • Analytical skills to conduct analyses and develop recommendations, demonstrating organization and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to balance multiple projects within a data driven accountability environment
  • Proven ability to conduct research into general application issues and emerging products
  • Ability to collect, evaluate, and analyze data from a variety of sources and use this knowledge to make recommendations


  • Demonstrated knowledge of or prior experience implementing PowerSchool/Power Teacher Pro and Special Education and/or other SISs preferred
  • Advanced reporting skills and proficiency in SQL, JavaScript, and HTML preferred
  • Experience in pupil accounting-principles, practices, and methods strongly preferred
  • Working knowledge of District and school-level business processes and student functionality related to SIS systems
  • Understanding of the requirements and timelines for student data submissions to the Michigan Department of Education (MDE), Center for Educational Performance and Information (CEPI), and the U.S. Department of Education

Position Job Responsibilities:

Under the direction of the Senior Director of Student Information Services, the Data Quality Specialist shall:

Essential Functions: 

1. Lead the research, analysis, requirements gathering, design, testing and implementation of new PowerSchool, PowerTeacher Pro, and Unified Enrollment modules, features, and customization

2. Collaborate with business process owners to ensure that the District’s SIS is configured to support high quality data practices, efficient use, and new or innovative applications

3. Develop top-tier help desk and user support mechanisms for SIS end users (staff, students, and families) and serve as second-line support to help desk and school-based SIS leads on user questions and problems with the SIS

4. Develop, deliver, and maintain professional development, reference materials, and support resources to ensure the effective use of the SIS by a wide range of stakeholders

5. Prepare timely and accurate reports and submissions of state and federal data per published requirements and guidelines, monitor ongoing operations and data integrity, and assist with student data audits

6. Create development pathways to expand the role and capacity of school-level education data specialists (e.g., SIS and pupil accounting specialists) responsible for submitting data, supporting end users, and analyzing data to benefit the school in data-driven decision making

7. Develop and manage the daily, monthly and annual schedule of events related to student data (class/student scheduling, release of report cards, student registration, student assignments/promotions, end-of-year processes)

8. Manage security setup, user account provisioning, and student and parent access

9. Lead custom report development, including operational reports to support school level staff and official school reports and documents (e.g., report cards, transcripts, scheduling forms, etc.)

10. Assist other departments and teams to integrate the SIS with other applications and initiatives

11. Serve as district representative on state and local committees involving student information

12. Participate in and contribute to knowledge management systems to help improve district communication and accelerate continuous improvement

13. Demonstrate an effective approach to team-building including clarity of purpose and shared responsibility.

14. Value, solicit, and integrate team members’ different perspectives effectively

15. Build effective relationships with manager, staff members and colleagues to implement District strategic plan

16. Perform other duties as assigned by the Senior Director of Student Information Services
