Senior Director of Data and Technology

The Senior Director of Data and Technology at Democracy Prep is principally responsible for leading the management and support of technology and data across the network. The Senior Director coordinates a team of Directors, Developers and external consultants to ensure that technology access is seamless and that staff and students have the hardware, software and education technology they need to learn. On the data side, the Senior Director manages a team supporting a wide range of custom-built data assets and tools to support the use of data across the entire DPPS network. They are also the primary owner of ensuring that we are meeting the network’s long-term data needs and working closely with our Data Developers to ensure that data is appropriately flowing in and out of each region’s SIS, meeting the needs of schools, and effectively populating critical systems. The Senior Director supports the Chief Operating Officer and the Senior Director of Facilities in coordinating the opening of new school facilities to ensure they are ready for handoff to scholars, teachers and leaders. They are a leader at the CMO and play a key role in cultivating a tech-savvy and data-driven culture across the network.

What You’ll Do

Data Systems

  • Lead as an example of Democracy Prep’s ongoing commitment to being a data-driven organization, and motivate other teams to continue leveraging data in ways that enhance their respective work streams
  • Lead our organization-wide data redesign, creating and implementing data architectures and data models in support of existing and future data-driven decision-making needs
  • Ensure the quality and integrity of the Student Information System data
  • Lead a system-level migration from legacy databases to a new, comprehensive, extensible data warehouse that can readily meet the needs of the organization
  • Implement data-governance policies and processes to both maximize the integrity and ensure the security of student data
  • Build the organization’s new practices and culture around data workflows, documentation, and management
  • Supervise the Director of Data Support, the Senior Manager of Data Insights and the Data Developer to ensure that critical functions across the network are seamless
  • Direct the team to execute on critical data systems development and deployment cycles, ensuring that network leaders have readily available access to meaningful student outcome data
  • Identify and implement a comprehensive dashboarding system to ensure that all stakeholders have access to clear and accurate data that is updated on a daily basis
  • Coordinate with regional Executive Directors and DOOs to deliver data need
  • Provide direction to the Data Development team around the technical integration of our student data with other critical data platforms and work streams
  • Collaborate regularly with teams across the CMO to identify high-level data systems needs and find (or design) solutions to meet those needs
  • Serve as a thought partner for teams across the network looking to leverage student data in creative and innovative ways
  • Communicate important updates about data systems and processes to our schools and network staff

Network Technology

  • Supervise the Director of Network Technology in support of the networks technology and infrastructure
  • Help lead the effort to assess our organization's information technology needs and coordinate the action steps necessary to ensure those needs are met
  • Manage the configuration of network technology to maintain the reliability of our essential systems as well as the security of organizational data/information
  • Guide the training and oversight of the IT Team as needed to optimize organizational preparedness and response efficacy for day-to-day support/troubleshooting needs
  • Develop recommendations regarding IT tools/strategy to ensure that Democracy Prep remains up to date with current networking best practices
  • Manage relationships and supports our procurement/purchasing process with vendors to ensure that Democracy Prep remains well positioned to quickly obtain essential technology when needed
  • Ensure clear and timely communication of important IT-related updates/information to schools as well as network staff (as needed)
  • Coordinate any actions and long-term planning required to make sure that the network is maximizing its assets/capabilities and minimizing disruptions in service (e.g. E-rate applications, proactive contract renewal, etc.)


  • In partnership with the COO, execute the network’s expansion strategy, to lead the seamless launch of new school sites and to provide robust support to existing sites around site design, construction, renovation and project management of new facilities
  • Continue to refine and build a sustainable, scalable, cost-efficient operational infrastructure that supports Democracy Prep’s continued growth
