ISTE is looking for a passionate candidate to join the Events and Marketing team as a Senior Director of Marketing. This individual will be responsible for sustaining and building the strength of the organization’s brand—which includes its reputation for thought-leadership, innovation, quality professional development, and delivering world class events —via thoughtful and strategic leadership of the planning and execution of all marketing and communications efforts.

The Senior Director of Marketing is responsible for sustaining and building the strength of the organization’s brand—which includes its reputation for thought-leadership, innovation, quality professional development, and delivering world class events —via thoughtful and strategic leadership of the planning and execution of all marketing and communications efforts. The senior director of marketing oversees the marketing department, with responsibility for tactical support of org wide initiatives, editorial content, social media, public relations, and building and engaging audience and demand. In this role, the senior director of marketing provides long- and short-term strategic planning and direction, fosters innovation, ensures productivity and maximize revenue and profit generation while controlling costs in order to ensure strong financial performance.

POSITION SPECIFIC DUTIES

  • Brand and Reputation Management—Sets quality expectations and standards for effective management of the brand, both visual and written, within all communications channels. This includes driving corporate strategy and key message development as well as helping to establish consistency and continuity of the brand and messaging within all internal and external touch points.
  • Business Intelligence and Stakeholder Interface—Serves as the source of market intelligence for our organization. Intimately understands the topics and trends that matter most to our target audiences and within the market we serve in order to provide expert advice on positioning, messaging and corporate initiatives.
  • Content Strategy—Leads the organization in effectively leveraging content, both digital and print, in order to drive revenue for event attendance, memberships, and product/service sales as well as to build brand authority and equity within the ed tech marketplace.
  • Digital Strategy—Leads ISTE's digital strategy by understanding how to leverage new and emerging technologies in order to ensure an optimal user-experience within all digital channels that are both relevant and in alignment with our overarching brand. Evaluates new technologies and media platforms in order to advise on their degree of appropriateness for supporting our communications and marketing efforts while having the greatest impact.
  • Strategic Communications—Sets goals and develops and leads the execution of the overarching communications strategy for the organization while overseeing the effective integration of marketing and communications efforts as they relate to integrated campaign planning, content strategy, inbound/social media efforts, internal/external communications, member engagement and branding initiatives.
  • Public and Media Relations—Creates and launches press releases, manages agency and resources to develop media relationships, solicits press coverage with key media partners and ensures media opportunities for the CEO and other Leadership Team members are fully vetted.
  • Budget Leadership—Ensures the fiscal health, efficiency and effectiveness of the Marcom budget and related programs and services. Conducts cost/benefit analysis, ensures integration with overall ISTE budget and other financial benchmarks, achieves satisfactory return on investment and/or meets objectives set for mission-driven initiatives. Conducts regular monitoring and reports metrics to the Leadership Team.
  • New Business and Product Development—Evaluates and advises on the marketing and communications considerations necessary for the successful development, integration and rollout of new products/services and/or programs and partnerships. This includes positioning, packaging pricing, messaging, target audiences, communications and all other marketing and branding efforts.
  • Strategic Initiatives and Partnerships—Collaborates with the leadership team on the evaluation of projects and initiatives tied to strategic partnerships. Is responsible for deliverables as they relate to and require the support of the organization's marketing and communications teams.
  • Staff Coach and Mentor—Coaches, counsels, trains and disciplines staff in accordance with organization policies and procedures. Interviews and hires new employees, develops job descriptions and conduct performance appraisals for direct reports.

Other Duties and Responsibilities

  • Leads cross-functional projects and teams, ensuring successful project evaluations and implementations.
  • Develops and documents tasks, timelines and milestones, facilitates group meetings and documents group findings.
  • Conducts strategic analysis and develops clear and quantifiable goals and objectives for program development.
  • Works with the Leadership Team to ensure individual department business plans are well integrated into an organizational plan and monitors and report out on program performance over time.
  • Helps develop the infrastructure needed to monitor goals, objectives and business plans.
  • Participates in and contributes to the development and monitoring of annual budgets.
  • Maintains extensive knowledge of ed tech and current market conditions.
  • Communicates in a professional, respectful and courteous manner with all employees, the Board of Directors, customers and others with whom we may work. Contributes to a successful work group through positive interactions, active listening, meaningful collaborations, and the constructive exchange of ideas designed to meet or exceed the organization’s strategic goals.
  • Complete special projects and other duties as assigned to meet team, department and organizational goals while actively demonstrating accountability and responsibility for achieving desired outcomes and measurable results.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/SKILLS

  • Master's degree in business, marketing and or communication related field.
  • A minimum of ten years' experience leading and directing a multi-department division in Marketing, Communications, and/or Public Relations.
  • A minimum of five years' experience in strategic program development and business model development.
  • Well-developed knowledge and understanding of education technology standards globally.
  • Well-developed knowledge of the field of education and educational technology.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may also be acceptable.

Also desirable:

  • Business development experience in the field of educational technology and professional development services.
  • Experience in international business and business-related experience in a cross-cultural environment.
  • A deep understanding of and a passion for the value of technology in education.
