School Content Specialist

Bitsbox - Boulder, Colorado - Full time

We're looking for a School Content Specialist to help us solve the following big, hairy problems:

  • What role can Bitsbox play in teaching kids about computer science at school?
  • What do we need to create to make this happen?
  • How can we make Bitsbox available to as many schools as possible?

Right now, our system is designed for kids at home, where the kid : grown-up ratio is blessedly low and everyone's Bitsboxing for fun. At school, teachers are outnumbered and there's actual learning to be done. Different ball game altogether.

The good news is that thousands of teachers are already using Bitsbox in their schools. We need to know more about who, what, where, why, when they're using it, and we need to figure out how to make educators' experience even better.

You would be:

  • Part of our Product team, working directly with one of our co-founders.
  • Communicating with educators all over North America to gather requirements.
  • Creating lesson plans, PD, introductory videos, assessment tools, and whatever else we need (in collaboration with our product team).
  • Rolling out pilot programs to schools and gathering feedback.

You definitely need to have:

  • A few years of experience teaching elementary-aged kids in the classroom.
  • Created kick-ass curriculum, lesson plans, PD materials, etc that you're proud to share.
  • Way-above-average writing and oral communication skills.
  • A deep-seated belief that anyone can learn to code, and that coding is something all kids should be given a chance to explore.
  • Some experience teaching coding, whether it's with robots, blocks, or typed languages.
  • Some capacity to travel for a few days every month.
  • The ability to work in our Boulder, Colorado office, full time.

Extra credit if you have:

  • Minimal fear of getting up in front of a live crowd or video broadcast.
  • Experience with Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Premiere)
  • Some knowledge of Javascript.
  • Experience teaching with Bitsbox.
  • Social Media accumen.
  • Experience writing grants.

You don't need to worry about:

  • Being an expert coder. (We can teach you.)
  • Being a graphic designer. (We can do this for you.)
  • Being a slick salesperson. (This isn't a sales job.)
  • Dressing fancy every day. (God knows we don't.)
