The San Francisco Education Fund (Ed Fund) was founded in 1963 to support students and teachers by placing community volunteers in San Francisco classrooms. Its mission is to harness the power of the community to equip every public school student with the skills to succeed in college, career and civic responsibility. The organization analyzes data to target resources where they are needed most, engages volunteers in classrooms, provides grants to educators, and awards scholarships to students in order to build a bright future for San Francisco and its young people. Since its founding, the Ed Fund has trained and placed over 100,000 volunteers in San Francisco classrooms, given more than seven million dollars in teacher grants, and measurably improved outcomes for San Francisco public school students and students who are in underserved and under-supported communities. OPPORTUNITY

The San Francisco Ed Fund is seeking a Chief Executive Officer (CEO) who can grow the organization’s footprint, capitalizing fully on its mission to support students throughout the City of San Francisco. For this role, the board seeks: an entrepreneurial leader who inspires and develops their team; an experienced development professional with a track record of raising substantial funding from individuals and institutional donors; someone with a familiarity with the context of San Francisco’s public education landscape and the diverse challenges and opportunities that presents; a compelling communicator, story-teller and strong builder of relationships; and a results-driven manager who has demonstrated success for the initiatives and organizations under their leadership. This is an ideal opportunity for an education advocate who wants to make a significant impact by bringing in resources and leveraging volunteers to support San Francisco’s school-age youth.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Key Responsibilities of the Chief Executive Officer include:

  • Leading the vision and “on the ground” execution of the Ed Fund’s vision for success including ensuring that its programs, organizational culture, local partnerships and community engagement are highly effective and tightly aligned to the organization’s mission and goals;
  • Managing senior leaders and staff, remaining deeply committed to developing and bringing out the strengths of all of the Ed Fund’s people while holding them accountable for their goals and the organization’s desired financial, programmatic and compliance outcomes;
  • Partnering with the Board of Directors and funders to secure and allocate the resources and supports necessary to maintain the health of the Ed Fund and the programs it supports, remaining solutions-oriented while pushing the boundaries of what is possible to realize the highest levels of success for San Francisco’s youth and our local community;
  • Championing the vision of the Ed Fund internally and externally by valuing diversity, equity and inclusion for all of the Ed Fund’s constituents and maintaining an unyielding focus at all times on what is best for the Ed Fund’s partners, supporters and the local community.

PRIORITIES

A successful first year in this role for the new Chief Executive Officer will include:

  • Meet or exceed the fundraising goals for the organization for FY 2020;
  • In collaboration with the Ed Fund staff and Board of Directors, validate and operationalize a 3-year strategic plan for taking the organization into the future and optimizing the impact it is capable of making;
  • Implement a cohesive brand strategy to inspire long time Ed Fund supporters and gain new supporters;
  • Evaluate the state and effectiveness of the Ed Fund’s core programs and prioritize goals for FY 2020 against the backdrop of the brand strategy.

QUALIFICATIONS

In order to fulfill these responsibilities, the ideal Chief Executive Officer candidate will be:

  • An accomplished leader with a track record of success in education, nonprofits and/or the private sector who is dedicated to the Ed Fund mission and has a deep commitment to ensuring that all students can access the opportunities they deserve.
  • Inspiring in his or her management style; willing to devote time to coach and develop their team while holding them accountable to measurable results.
  • Experienced in raising funds for their organization, including a track record of building successful business and program partnerships and/or major gifts fundraising.
  • Culturally competent and a self-reflective leader who understands the effects of race, class, ethnicity, income, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, and other issues of difference in society and is able to lead direct conversations about them.
  • Skilled in strategic planning, project management, and organization; able to focus on and communicate corporate priorities while not losing sight of the details; and align vision with defined values.
  • Dynamic and versatile, someone who engages effectively with a variety of individuals and speaks in a clear, compelling, and authentic manner about the organization’s goals and priorities.
  • Strong partnership builder with a diverse range of community leaders and institutions.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

This position offers a competitive salary range of $160,000-185,000 and robust benefits. More details can be provided upon request.
