Rooted School, Green Balloon Fellowship (Nevada)

Rooted School - Reno, Nevada - Full time

Rooted School is a charter high school in New Orleans with the bold vision of closing the academic achievement gap and the wealth gap in our lifetime. Since opening its doors in 2017, its mission aims to equip students with the skills and knowledge they need to compete for the fastest-growing and highest-paying jobs in their communities, with or without a college degree.

Rooted School is poised to become the local leader in placing teens into tens of thousands of job openings over the next decade and beyond–starting within tech.

For Founder and CEO Jonathan Johnson, Rooted School’s origin story is deeply personal. In 2012, he lost an eighth grade student who excelled in school and had big ambitions. His student, 16 at the time, was shot near his home in the Central City neighborhood of New Orleans during a drug deal. This tragic loss inspired Jonathan to build a new kind of school where high-performing students from underserved communities could thrive and access the highest-paying and most in-demand jobs in the city. Jonathan saw an opportunity to move students toward financial freedom faster and, at the same time, help the city's economy thrive. Rooted School was the result – a school that could simultaneously prepare students for college and careers. Read more about how Rooted School is thriving in New Orleans here.
