Research Scientist (San Mateo, CA)

IXL Learning, a leading edtech company with products used by 12 million students worldwide, is seeking a Research Scientist to join our marketing team and help us build research capacity for IXL.

As a Research Scientist, you will lead quantitative research studies to evaluate the impact of IXL on student learning, provide thought leadership to shape research projects, and maintain the research roadmap at IXL. The ideal candidate is motivated, organized, and passionate about the impact of technology on education.

This is a full-time position in our San Mateo office.

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING

• Design and conduct experimental and quasi-experimental studies to examine the relationship between IXL usage and student learning outcomes
• Generate or contribute to new research ideas, research methodologies, and analytical procedures in the area of educational research
• Gather and analyze internal and external data and discover useful insights for sales, marketing, and product teams
• Manage and monitor external research partners
• Document and disseminate research results through publications and presentations

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

• Ph.D. in education measurement, evaluation, research methods, quantitative psychology, applied statistics, developmental/educational psychology, or a related field
• At least one year of independent research experience (preferred)
• Deep knowledge in experimental design and statistical modeling (e.g., general/-ized linear modeling, multilevel modeling, structural equation modeling, longitudinal analysis)
• Basic knowledge of psychometrics and measurement theory
• Demonstrated experience with R or Python
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Experience with machine learning is a plus
