About the Position 

There is an emerging “second level digital divide” in US schools, which is fueled by major differences in how technology is being utilized to advance teaching and learning. Digital Promise is supporting fifty U.S. middle schools with a full time technology and learning coach and additional support that will enable teachers to more powerfully use technology for learning.

Digital Promise is seeking a Research Scientist to lead all research aspects of the project including design, instrument development, data collection, data analysis, and reporting. The Research Scientist will design and implement a mixed-methods approach to identify and understand effective coaching and leadership practices for enabling teachers to more powerfully use technology for learning. Additionally, the Research Scientist will collect, analyze, and share data on an ongoing basis to inform and improve the project.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct a literature review of instructional coaching in technology rich environments.
  • Develop a mixed-methods approach to data collection and analysis to address key questions about the efficacy of instructional coaches to support the use of technology in teaching and learning.
  • Design and administer pre and post surveys to academic coaches, principals, and teachers.
  • Design and administer brief surveys to coaches and principals to inform continuous improvement.
  • Conduct interviews with coaches and principals, and focus groups with teachers at case study sites.
  • Collect and analyze artifacts in a variety of media, including video, audio, images, text and graphical, to support development of case studies.
  • Prepare comprehensive interim and final reports of research findings that may be published or presented at conferences to share with the academic community.
  • Contribute to blog posts, infographics, and data visualizations that accurately and effectively communicate findings to a non-academic audience.
  • Work closely with Digital Promise Research team to support data collection and analysis for other Digital Promise research projects, as needed.

Qualifications

  • Doctorate in education, learning sciences, sociology, public policy, or related field with strong research emphasis. Master's Degree with 5+ years of research experience will also be considered.
  • Experience conducting continuous improvement research in a school district setting strongly preferred.
  • Proficiency in both qualitative and quantitative data analysis methods and software packages (SPSS, R, NVivo, Dedoose).
  • Strong writing skills, including the ability to communicate complex/technical information for public audiences.
  • Strong oral communication skills and ability to make presentations to diverse audiences
  • Ability to think flexibly and engage in creative problem-solving.
  • Ability to travel as need to research sites.

Compensation 

Salary and benefits will be commensurate with experience.
