Research Associate, Project Manager

The Research Associate, Project Manager is both a researcher and project manager responsible for driving strategy and implementation of ISTE research projects in the Research & Development (R&D) department, and the development of related products and services. As the primary point of contact for R&D projects, this staff ensures the successful management of projects from start to finish. Key responsibilities will include: conducting educational research activities, writing reports, managing project communication and rosters, tracking expenses and managing budgets, developing proposals and media content, (e.g. blogs, instructional resources), event planning, and managing contracts and contractors. This staff is expected to contribute to a dynamic team devoted to advancing teaching and learning through ISTE projects, products, and services - especially projects that inform teaching and edtech selection through research.


  • Ensure that all aspects of project implementation run smoothly.
  • Plan and complete research and program activities including study design, participant recruitment, and data collection and analysis, including both quantitative and qualitative research activities.
  • Create and maintain project tracking systems and reporting documents for both internal and external audiences.
  • Coordinate and communicate with project partners and stakeholders, including project funders and sponsors.
  • Manage and track budgets, invoices, contracts, and expense reimbursements.
  • Provide financial reporting on all assigned projects.
  • Make recommendations and deploy processes for improving project efficiencies against project metrics and milestones.
  • Organize and participate in project related meetings, events, and presentations including agenda planning, event setup, and participant outreach.
  • Facilitate and manage communication between ISTE staff, key project personnel, external liaisons, project participants, vendors and suppliers.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues across departments to ensure projects progress in a timely manner; be able to sequence tasks and move multiple tasks forward in parallel.
  • Provide consulting and technical assistance directly to schools and districts about edtech selection, procurement, and implementation.


  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Research, Qualitative Research or related field. Advanced degree, or credential-based program in a related field strongly preferred.
  • PMP certification desired; not required
  • At least two years’ experience working in research.
  • At least two years’ experience working in project management.
  • Committed to supporting ideas and practices that support diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Experience in K-12 education, specifically directly supporting schools and districts is strongly preferred.
  • Experience in educational program evaluation or research preferred.
  • Attention to detail with strong organizational skills.
  • Experience with technical writing.
  • Experience working with quantitative research methods such as descriptive statistics, test reliability and validity, item analysis, and/or regression and multilevel modeling.
  • Experience working with general and qualitative research methods, such as interview protocol and questionnaire design, interview coding, and literature review. Experience with human centered design is a bonus.
  • Knowledge of statistics packages (either Stata or R + SQL).
  • Demonstrated intermediate skills using Microsoft Office and Google Suite products.
