Research Associate

We are seeking a Research Associate to join our Research & Analytics department.  The Research Associate will support all phases of Lexia’s program of school-based research. We run a range of different studies, from multi-school randomized controlled efficacy trials, to smaller-scale formative research projects. The Research Associate will contribute to the creation of new research instruments, coordinate and lead school site visits, and contribute to data analysis and report writing.

The ideal candidate will be located within a commutable distance to our Concord, MA office to engage in in-person collaboration and to lead data collection in the MA area.

Job Functions:

  • Monitor Lexia program usage and progress in research sites to help rapidly identify potential school implementation roadblocks.
  • Draft custom surveys, interview/focus group guidelines, and observation protocols.
  • Search for and make recommendations about previously validated/standardized assessments, survey measures, and observation protocols that can be incorporated into research studies.
  • Lead classroom observation sessions. This includes interfacing with teachers and directing/coaching members of Lexia’s Research & Analytics department and volunteers from other Lexia departments during site visits. The Research Associate also will schedule school visits and, as necessary, coordinate the consent/assent process.
  • Assist with or lead (depending on prior experience) educator and student interviews and focus groups.
  • Manage independent contractors and interns who may assist with data collection efforts.
  • Analyze quantitative and qualitative data (independently or with support as needed).
  • Search for and review academic literature, and maintain Lexia’s EndNote literature database.
  • Draft reports and slide decks describing research findings for internal and external audiences.
  • Present or co-present research at educational and academic conferences.
  • Co-author academic conference submissions and manuscripts.
  • Create data visualizations to accompany written collateral and presentations.
  • Travel up to 15%. Mainly local to MA with 1-2 annual domestic trips.

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Master’s degree in education, developmental psychology, communication, or a related field preferred and/or Bachelor's degree with comparable experience
  • 2+ years of experience working with K-12 students or in a K-12 educational setting preferred
  • Knowledge of experimental, quasi-experimental, and observational research designs
  • Strong attention to detail, written and verbal communication skills, and creativity
  • Some familiarity with statistical software (e.g., SPSS, R)
  • Experience with data visualization programs (e.g., Tableau) or querying SQL databases are a plus
