Reporting and Data Associate

At DeansList, we give educators the tools to collect data efficiently and use it effectively. We believe that access to data helps educators make informed decisions about how best to support students and that regularly providing families with information about student performance and progress opens lines of communication and builds trust.

We are continuously refining and building reports to meet the needs of schools, and we are growing our reporting team to support this work. As DeansList’s Reporting and Data Associate, you’ll partner with schools as our resident data expert, building data literacy and translating ideas for reports into concrete specifications and designs. In addition to collaborating with educators, you’ll have the opportunity to develop your technical skills by building reports for schools using HTML, Javascript, and CSS.

An ideal candidate is an enthusiastic, self-directed learner with excellent communication skills, strong attention to detail, empathy for and experience with K-12 educators, and an affinity for data, technology, and design. We’re looking for applicants who love talking to others about data as much as they love tinkering with it. By joining our reporting team now, you’ll help shape the way we support our educators and school leaders in their use of data.

Responsibilities

  • Work directly school leaders to determine their data needs and identify reports that meet those needs
  • Act as a first point of contact for reporting questions and report troubleshooting
  • Translate report requests into clear specifications and design reports that delight our schools
  • Manage the summer report development process during new school onboarding
  • Develop data and report-focused training materials
  • Work with schools to ensure that the reports they are sending effectively communicate the information they want to share
  • Manage incoming report requests and advocate for ways in which we can provide schools with the most useful tools

Requirements

  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Exceptional attention to detail and deduction to understanding the specifics of complex systems and requests
  • High level of comfort with Google Docs and Google Sheets and interest in K-12 education data and visualization
  • Love of learning new skills and technologies.
  • 3-4 years of experience working in a K-12 educational institution OR experience working in a client-facing operations:/data-oriented role
  • Familiarity with HTML and CSS basics and/or professional experience with other programming languages (e.g. R, Python, advanced Excel user)

  • Most important: have a passion for improving education, empathy for educators, and a desire to create great reports and data tools that help schools be more effective
  • Bonus: familiarity with Javascript, either through professional experience or coursework
