Regional Math Specialist

Regional Student Services: The Regional Math Specialist is responsible for teaching and coordinating developmental and corequisite math courses. The specialist also evaluates assessment and placement and supports students who are not ready for college-level assignments through consultation and coaching. This position trains and supports math tutors, supplemental instruction leaders, and math study groups.

The duties include and are not limited to: Teach up to 12 credit hours per academic year in the assigned area (developmental math); Develop and maintain curriculum for developmental and co-requisite courses for pre-college level learners; Assist with course schedule development for math courses offered by Learning Assistance; Recruit, Train, Assess, and Support part-time instructors for math courses offered by Learning Assistance; Assess new student math proficiency markers, making suggestions and recommendations for placement through use of placement assessment tool and consultation with students; Create, promote and evaluate basic math support programs such as tutoring, supplemental instruction, bootcamp and workshops; Maintain connection with pre-college program (Aspire) to ensure program alignment. Maintain connection with MPS department to ensure program alignment; Support/coach a caseload of academically at-risk students during their first year of college matriculation.

Required Qualifications: Master's degree in mathematics, mathematics education, or closely related field; 3 years of experience teaching and tutoring college students in developmental mathematics, college algebra, trigonometry, and introductory statistics. Experience working with at-risk students.

Desired Qualifications: Consideration may be given to candidates with experience coordinating a tutoring or supplemental instruction program, experience teaching mathematics using corequisite delivery, experience with Canvas LMS, experience with mathematics software programs, knowledge of recent pedagogical and learning science research in mathematics education, excellent written and verbal communication, experience with google suite products, intermediate proficiency with spreadsheets.
