Position Summary

This is a new position that is part of a larger regional strategic plan focused on growth and depth of our Professional Development (PD) services in targeted regions. The Regional Director of Educational Partnerships - Los Angeles is responsible for building a sustainable million dollar business for PBLWorks in the Los Angeles region. This includes nurturing and building new relationships with K-12 school leaders, district leaders, community leaders, and other significant local partners. Our goal -- by 2022 -- is to work with 3000 teachers and 700 leaders who will ultimately influence up to 100,000 students. The successful candidate will have an entrepreneurial spirit, an ability to build cross-sector partnerships and the courage and leadership skills to address educational inequities.

The position reports to the Chief Program Officer, and is a full-time position with benefits. The candidate will be a remote employee located in the Los Angeles region. Travel for this position will be extensive, up to 40%.

Key Responsibilities:

Partnership Development

●Cultivate a robust, local pipeline of leaders at all K-12 levels to create sustainable networks for teachers and leaders to learn with and from one another while increasing the number of students experiencing High Quality Project Based Learning (HQPBL), especially those students furthest from opportunity. Specific goals will include negotiation and finalizing service contracts for:

○At least two school leader networks to include diverse leadership teams from 8-10 local schools.

○One to two new district partnerships annually.

○One or more partners who will host a PBL Institute event.

○10 or more local schools for teacher-facing PD services.

●Work closely with the Director of Partnership Development to strategically develop new relationships, while successfully assessing potential partners’ implementation capabilities.

●Develop and maintain excellent collaborative relationships with K-12 leaders in the region.

●Demonstrate understanding of local K-12 educational systems and policies, as well as local community and funding networks that support K-12

●Work effectively with the program and operations teams to seamlessly bring in new partners and insure that they have a successful experience, and with marketing team to develop leads pipeline.

Partner Support

●Provide ongoing oversight and support of the leader networks and school and district partners, in tandem with a local District and School Leadership Director.

●Support Institute partners in the execution of an event that is in synch with the PBLWorks strategy, brand, and high-quality service goals.

Thought Leadership

●Represent PBLWorks and advocate for our work by presenting at conferences (regional, state, and national) and using social media

●Organize local events to showcase PBLWorks.

●Explore partnership opportunities with organizations interested in working with PBLWorks, and provide an assessment and recommendations to the PBLWorks management team.

Account Management

●Monitor and report on sales metrics (e.g. quarterly sales results and annual forecasts).

●Develop and maintain leads and deeply understand Set and track sales account targets.

●Be able to read the market, recognize trends, and adjust prospecting to match opportunities.

●Other accountabilities, as assigned.

●Work with other PBLWorks team members to further our mission, vision, values, and strategic plan.

●As a collaborative team player, support PBLWorks colleagues, and understand the full process of PBLWorks.

Qualifications and Abilities

The successful candidate will bring this experience to the role:

●Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred

●Five or more years of consistent sales success and/or service delivery experience in K-12 districts and schools.

●Extensive knowledge and experience working within the Los Angeles K-12 region, including an understanding of the local educational policies, geography and culture.

●Skilled negotiator with a win/win approach. Seasoned ability to negotiate and discuss contract terms. Able to navigate complex school and district procurement and decision-making processes.

●Be able to present and facilitate with large groups with ease and aplomb.

●Superb communication skills.

●Strong analytical and organizational skills.

●Organized, detail oriented, careful, cool under pressure and deadlines. Great at follow-up.

●Growth-oriented and reflective.

●Self-starter, able to work without close supervision.

●Experience working with diverse communities and demonstrated cultural competence

●Knowledge of and passion for Project-Based Learning, preferably gained through first-hand experience.

●Competent with Word, Excel, Google Apps, and deep experience using Salesforce.

●Presence and facility with Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn (preferred)

Reporting Relationships

The Regional Director of Educational Partnerships reports to the Chief Program Officer.


The job will be located in the Greater Los Angeles region and will be a remote position.

Compensation / Benefits
