Child Care Aware® of America is our nation’s leading voice for child care. We work with more than 400 state and local Child Care Resource and Referral agencies to ensure that families in every community have access to quality, affordable child care.

Summary of Position:

The Public Affairs Manager develops and implements Child Care Aware of America social media strategy as a key component of the organization’s public outreach. In addition, the Public Affairs Manager supports CCAoA’s media and public relations strategies designed to inform and engage the public.

Position Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Position CCAoA social media platforms as an integral part of the organizations overall communications strategy.
  • Develop, implement, review digital content related to child care issues for CCAoA.
  • Facilitate content review and quality control for all CCAoA social media posts.
  • Monitor and respond to relevant conversations on social media as CCAoA.
  • Effectively partner with other CCAoA teams to establish process, priorities and timing of digital campaigns for various projects.
  • Analyze digital campaign performance and provide well-prepared reports on campaign metrics and recommendations for improvement.
  • Provide cross-checking and quality control for team members' social media content so that all posts conform to best practices for that platform.
  • Research trends and new opportunities or platforms in the social media space.
  • Build relationships with our digital audiences, and share relevant industry trends and thought leadership via our channels.
  • Facilitate support for broad adoption of digital best practices in social media channels for the organization.
  • Assist in preparing organization spokespersons for media interviews and other external events with research, talking points, interview tips, etc.
  • Assist in creating media collateral (media plans, press releases, media advisories, talking points, etc.) to support the launch of CCAoA reports, initiatives and programs.
  • Collaborate on development of story ideas and potential target media outlets.
  • Liaise with policy and other departments to gather information for external communications and media relations.
  • Help draft press releases, statements, blog posts, op-eds and letters to the editor.
  • Post content in CCAoA’s online media center.
  • Help manage PR platforms, including the development of distribution lists, press release distribution and regular collection of success metrics.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, or related field
  • At least 3 -5 years working in a national organization, preferably in the communications department
  • Experience in building an effective organizational social media presence.
  • Ability to grasp key organizational messages and effectively communicate them to a variety of audiences across digital channels.
  • Experience using digital campaign tactics to achieve goals.
  • Strong grasp of best practices on social media.
  • Experience running paid or boosted ads/content.
  • Skilled in social media monitoring tools and experienced with HubSpot.
  • Strong writing skills and experience across platforms and for diverse audiences.
  • Extensive skills with Microsoft Office products
  • Experience with PR software, e.g., Cision, PR newswire, preferred
  • Experience with Adobe Creative Suite preferred
