At Emmersion we are on a mission to close the global communication gap. We’re doing this by building an adaptive language assessment and learning engine that is affordable, reliable, and saves our customers time. Our customers use our assessments to make hiring and placement decisions for multilingual professionals and language-learners. We create innovative assessments and tools that ensure our customers’ test-takers are being accurately assessed on their language ability and that our customers are able to make confident evidence-based decisions.

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING

  • Participating in item analysis and item calibration projects using IRT and other statistical methods to create and improve predictive models
  • Investigating and participating in solutions for automated item calibration
  • Researching computer adaptive testing models
  • Participating in building computer adaptive testing models
  • Evaluating reliability of artificial speech recognition data
  • Researching and identifying additional data points to improve validity and reliability
  • Summarizing discoveries and developments in technical reports
  • Maintaining expertise in psychometric practices and expanding understanding in language assessment.
  • Collaborating with the product and engineering teams to implement psychometric features into new and existing products

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

  • Research background in language assessment, linguistics or language acquisition
  • Experience with dichotomous and polytomous IRT models
  • Experience with SQL for data analysis
  • Experience and proficiency using R or other statistical software for data analysis
  • Experience with computer adaptive testing
  • Experience with latent trait modeling
  • Proven ability to define and validate meaningful metrics
  • Proven ability to learn and adapt new approaches quickly
  • Strong communication and organization skills
  • Educational background in quantitative statistics, and educational measurement

WHAT WE'D LOVE TO SEE

  • Familiarity with back-end software development (C#)
  • Experience with cognitive diagnostic modeling
  • Experience with latent trait modeling
  • Experience with natural language processing and automatic speech recognition
  • Experience in factor analysis (e.g., exploratory, confirmatory, and structural equation modeling)
