Program Operations Director

InnovateEDU is currently seeking a full-time Program Operations Director to lead the LAB Corps Urban Education Fellowship, a successful high dosage tutoring and educator development program. The Program Operations Director will supervise a corps of 20-40 novice educators and manage day-to-day operations of the fellowship program, which operates in partnership with Brooklyn Laboratory Charter Schools (LAB). LAB is an urban charter network with approximately 1,070 students. This position requires the person to present in school buildings.


  • Supervise a corps of 20-40 novice educators in the LAB Corps Fellowship program, observe fellows regularly to evaluate and coach fellows, connect fellows with training and resources, and encourage professional growth and development.
  • Manage day-to-day operations of the fellowship program including fellow schedules and coverage, personnel inquiries, ensuring that the program is in compliance with contract/partnership agreement, and local, state, and federal regulations, and coordination with LAB regarding fellow support for assessments, field trips, and special events.
  • Serve as the liaison between InnovateEDU and LAB for the fellowship program including updating the InnovateEDU school-based team on new and upcoming developments, coordinating with leaders at LAB to ensure that strong grade-level and/or content team coordination exists between teachers and fellows, and the program aligns both with school priorities and InnovateEDU’s compliance requirements.
  • Collaborate with instructional leaders at LAB to formulate, plan, and implement summer training and weekly/ongoing professional development for fellows. Provide group and individual training, team building, and professional development sessions on the vision for the tutoring program, professionalism, human resources, tutoring program schedule and logistics, building community within the cohort of tutors and between tutors and Brooklyn Lab staff, and other needed topics as they arise.
  • Manage recruitment and hiring for a new cohort of fellows each year including 1) leading efforts to recruit, screen, interview, monitor, and cultivate potential applicants; 2) leading efforts to engage the incoming cohort of fellows between offer and start date; and 3) planning and leading onboarding sessions with all tutors on InnovateEDU’s programs, human resources, benefits, the InnovateEDU Employee Handbook, and professional expectations.
  • Lead performance management for the fellowship program. This includes conducting formal evaluations of fellows (with input from LAB instructional leaders), administering personnel matters, providing appropriate information and assistance to tutors regarding personnel matters, and properly implementing organizational policies and procedures related to HR, and ensuring that all tutors complete school-required trainings; and leading the process of collecting data (e.g. tutor experience surveys, post-year of service surveys, surveys of Brooklyn Lab experience with tutors) related to the program.
  • Manage HR related aspects of the program with support from the Chief of Staff and Operations Associate. This includes 1) administering personnel matters; 2) properly implementing organizational policies and procedures relating to HR; 3) providing appropriate information and assistance to staff regarding personnel matters; 4) ensuring that all tutors complete standard employment paperwork, required trainings, and background check(s); 5) planning and leading onboarding sessions with all tutors on InnovateEDU’s programs, human resources, benefits, the Employee Handbook, and professional expectations; and 6) preparing and maintain legal personnel-related documentation (including offer letters, disciplinary procedures, and terminations of employment) and maintaining up-to-date personnel files.
  • Support the LAB school community by attending family nights, report card nights and occasional work events outside of normally scheduled work hours; Coordinating with LAB to ensure that fellow roles and responsibilities for such events are clearly defined and communicated.
  • Coordinate with the Director of Afterschool Programs to ensure alignment between InnovateEDU’s school-based programs and address challenges and opportunities as they arise.
  • Perform other related duties as needed and assigned.


  • Bachelor's degree required (Master’s degree preferred)
  • A current teaching certification or significant experience in classroom teaching or instruction
  • Commitment to InnovateEDU’s mission and vision

  • At least five years of supervisory experience, experience supervising and coaching educators or youth development programs;
  • Experience with and knowledge of human resources and implementing robust performance management systems;
  • Experience managing partnerships between community based organizations and school preferred;
  • Demonstrated ability to facilitate engaging trainings for adults;
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills;
  • Experience and skill in communicating with diverse stakeholder groups;
  • Experience building effective teams of adults and mobilizing adults to meet shared and individual goals;
  • Willingness to engage in difficult conversations, make hard decisions, and consider both long-term and unintended consequences of potential decisions;
  • Demonstrated drive and determination to take initiative, go above and beyond typical expectations, and achieve exceptional outcomes and results;
  • Desire to promote and contributes to a culture of sharing effective practices;


The salary range for this position starts at $75,000 and is a full time salaried position with benefits. Salary determination is commensurate with experience.
