Robin Hood Foundation

The Robin Hood Learning + Technology Fund

The Robin Hood Learning + Technology Fund (“The Fund”) is dedicated to unlocking the potential of technology to transform learning and advance achievement for low-income students in New York City.

In 2015, the Overdeck Family Foundation, Robin Hood, and the Siegel Family Endowment established the Fund with an investment of $25 million to seed and uncover bright spots of innovation over a five year period in two targeted strategies: a) Integrating computing education and computational thinking across the K–5 curriculum to develop higher-order thinking skills toward greater academic proficiency; and b) Combining the advantages of a personalized and blended approach with content-rich literacy instruction to boost low-income students’ literacy achievement. Our portfolio of schools will serve as demonstration sites from which we can inspire, inform and catalyze the field to support the replication of promising, school-wide approaches. The Fund invests in both schools and intermediary partners, offering capital, expertise and collaborative learning opportunities.

About Robin Hood

Robin Hood is New York’s largest poverty-fighting organization, focused on finding, funding and creating programs and schools that generate meaningful results for New York’s poorest residents. Since 1988, Robin Hood has raised over $2.5 billion in dollars, goods and services, providing hundreds of the most effective service organizations – soup kitchens, homeless shelters, schools, job training programs and other vital services – the tools necessary for our neediest neighbors to build better lives. Robin Hood's board of directors pays all administrative, fundraising and evaluation costs, so 100% of donations go directly to organizations helping New Yorkers in need.

Robin Hood funds education as a poverty-fighting tool. The K-12 Education portfolio makes grants totaling about $30 million annually. These cover diverse interventions including charter, district and parochial schools, teacher training, after-school, college access and success, education technology and school-based mental health programs. Their aim is to drive improved education and life outcomes for young people in New York City living in poverty.
