Facing History and Ourselves is a global education non-profit organization that challenges teachers and students to use lessons of history to stand up to bigotry and hate.

Role Summary: The Project Manager, Operations reports to the Director of Project Management and is responsible for the successful development, implementation, management and completion of cross-functional projects at Facing History. The Project Manager, Operations has overall responsibility to work cross-functionally with internal staff and external partners and contractors, as needed, to ensure that assigned projects exhibit good planning, are operated efficiently within budget and on time, and deliver the quality that Facing History and Ourselves is known for. The Project Manager, Operations, will serve as the primary liaison between a project team and other departments.

Specific Responsibilities Include:

  • Determine and define project scope and resources needed to manage multiple short-term and long-term projects, in partnership with project owners
  • Develop and drive the project work plan by setting meeting schedules and agendas (external and/or internal) as appropriate, in accordance with project timelines, benchmarks and deliverables; identify next steps and follow-up for all team members; delegate responsibilities appropriately; and ensure communication within and across projects and teams
  • Manage and coordinate all related project activities, including but not limited to maintaining project information and documentation in the organization’s file systems including budgets, internal and external materials, proposals, contracts and staff hours
  • Work with members of cross-organizational project teams to develop proposals, work plans, timelines, budgets, and reports as appropriate
  • Create budgets and complete work as needed during the budget season, track and approve expenses, review monthly financial reports, make sure they adhere to the overall project budget as well as the master budget, and communicate to project team, finance and administrative staff as appropriate
  • Manage and monitor project metrics, timeline and staff hours
  • Coordinate with the Grants Team and other teams to ensure interim and final reporting is done according to contracts, upcoming proposals and/or project timeline
  • As a member of the Project Management Office (PMO), develop and contribute to creation of project management tools, processes, resources, and trainings to promote effective project management across the organization and support others engaged in this work

  • BA/BS or relevant work experience; minimum of 3-5 years relevant work experience
  • Experience working in education and/or non-profit settings strongly preferred
  • Cultural sensitivity and ability to work with a wide range of internal and external contacts from diverse backgrounds
  • Committed to Facing History’s mission and strong interest in learning about Facing History’s work
  • Demonstrated ability to manage complex processes and coordinate across functions
  • Ability to multitask and be flexible while showing attention to detail

  • Ability to determine, plan and organize goals and prioritize actions
  • Excellent written and oral communication and computer skills
  • Knowledge of project management tools and processes
  • Experience with budgeting and financial management
  • Strong people and relationship management skills
  • Ability to take in information quickly and synthesize it in a way that is accessible to others

Hybrid Work Model: Facing History and Ourselves operates in a hybrid work model, allowing staff flexibility in both schedules and work locations. This particular position is home-based. Some travel may be required.
