Program Manager, Learning

The Program Manager, Learning reports to the Director of Program Management, Learning and Assessment. The Program Manager will be responsible for accomplishing strategic objectives and delivering on business outcomes for their assigned product portfolio by directly managing strategic projects as well as overseeing projects and a pipeline of development requests in a coordinated, aligned and prioritized way. This position serves as a cross functional partner to product managers and product owners in defining program strategy and works closely with project managers in execution and delivery. The Program Manager takes a collaborative approach, working with all product teams and members, to define/improve key program management processes and methods. The Program Manager will monitor the progress of all program components and drive for continuous improvement and agility to ensure overall goals, schedules, budget, and benefits are met.

Here's what you'll do:

  • Participate in strategic planning and road mapping process by contributing program information, insights, and recommendations for expanded program offerings and/or enhancing the quality of existing program components to realize portfolio strategy and organizational goals.
  • Create, manage, and optimize process and pipeline of development requests that may include general product backlog, alignments, state lists, RFPs, and research. Collect and define early requirements from sales, service, and support organizations. Coordinate with product management to set priority and delivery cadence (e.g. quarterly) based on market, business, and customer need.
  • Manage and track program strategy and components including directly managing strategic projects as well as providing oversight and strategic guidance on related projects managed by project managers.
  • Closely monitor, track, and report on program performance. Guide roadblocks and escalations to successful resolution. Define and aggregate portfolio level estimating, forecasting, and reporting for project schedules, resources plans, budgets, and notable decisions/risks/issues.
  • Communicate program progress frequently and effectively to all stakeholders. Develop dashboards, as needed, to visually convey strategy status, pipeline status, etc. on a recurring basis.
  • Develop work estimates, work breakdown structures, and the program plan; prepare a consolidated work plan for initiatives that involve multiple related projects.
  • Proactively manage and communicate program risks and issues. Make recommendations to teams with issues / barriers to continue program deliverables. Recommend solutions to conflicts, issues between multiple teams.
  • Anticipate stakeholder needs, and successfully manage changes in project scope, schedule, budget, and personnel. Ensure project objectives are set and roles of team members are clear.
  • Partner closely with departments throughout the organization, such as Product and Operations, to define requirements, set priorities, complete projects, create and maintain release plans, and communicate portfolio updates.
  • Define and continuously improve key program management methods and processes including project estimation, forecasting, planning, and change management. Ensure quality metrics for portfolio have been established, standardized, and communicated. Collaborate with management and team members.
  • Additional duties as assigned.

Here's what you'll need:

  • Bachelor’s degree; Masters or advanced degree preferred
  • PMP or similar project management certification preferred
  • 8+ years’ experience in education technology, and/or publishing
  • 5+ years’ experience in program/project management or managerial experience implementing multiple large scale, strategic projects in a cross-functional environment with an ability to influence teams to meet overall program goals
  • 3 years’ experience in agile-based development practices
  • Thorough understanding of project and program management methodology and techniques
  • Ability to be broadly focused and manage multiple efforts concurrently
  • Strong leadership, communication, collaboration, and team-building skills
  • Proven experience working with multiple vendors, including onshore and offshore
  • Experience defining and implementing new processes; bringing in new ideas to drive program outcomes
  • Exceptional writing, editing, communication, and presentation skills
  • Ability to establish trust and credibility to build supportive relationships
  • Highly organized, proactive, detail and deadline oriented with ability to manage competing priorities
  • Strong creative and critical thinking skills
  • Flexibility and willingness to learn
  • Positive and high-energy attitude
  • Experience managing multiple inter-connected projects in multi-faceted and fast-paced environment
