Position Description

The Program Manager, Family Engagement will play an integral role in implementing PowerMyLearning's Digital Learning Program in Atlanta by serving as the Family Engagement content expert for the region. The Digital Learning Program supports our Partner Schools in driving students' ownership of their learning and propelling student achievement, both in and outside the classroom, to meet the challenges of the Georgia Milestones. This, in turn, ensures student college readiness and success.

PowerMyLearning's Digital Learning Program include direct work with families and students in high-poverty communities, as well as partnering with teachers to help them leverage digital learning in their classrooms at low-income traditional public schools and charter schools.

PowerMyLearning's Greater Atlanta is expanding our services for both teachers and families, thus deepening our impact across the metro-Atlanta area. Implementing this deeper impact with families at our Partner Schools will be the key responsibility of the Program Manager. This role will support program success by creating and implementing high-quality events that engage more students and parents around learning, and encourage a stronger connection with their school.

The Program Manager has management responsibility over full-time staff members and a range of 5-15 part-time workshop staff who are responsible for the implementation of the elements of our Digital Learning Program work with families. The Program Manager works with the Program Coordinator to manage all aspects of the Family Learning Workshops, supports national program development by collaborating with PowerMyLearning's regional and national teams, and conducts other special projects involving the support of PowerMyLearning's Digital Learning Program and its sustainability in Atlanta.

This position reports to the Director of Programs.

Key Responsibilities

Lead Program to Yield Outstanding Results

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with PowerMyLearning's partner schools and school leaders
  • Manage and support implementation of preparatory work leading to Family Involvement, including giving presentations to groups of 20-200 students in outreach sessions; scheduling and attending partnership, logistics, and evaluation meetings, etc.
  • Serve as the site manager for Family Learning Workshops: coordinate workshop activities; oversee workshop staff; conduct a public welcome address to families and staff; and problem-solve as needed to ensure that workshops run smoothly
  • Collect data and report on the impact of Family Engagement
  • Collaborate with cross-regional workgroups to provide curriculum feedback and new ideas regarding curriculum improvements and new ways of involving families in learning
  • Provide subject matter expertise around family engagement strategies for the school
  • In conjunction with local, regional, and national staff, improve training that is provided for part-time and full-time staff.

Ensure a High-Performing Team

  • Actively participate in a feedback oriented culture includes managing up by being proactive and keeping supervisor informed of changing priorities or pertinent issues as they arise
  • Demonstrate investment in entire program team, regardless of reporting structures
  • Manage the professional development of direct reports at all times and other program staff, when asked
  • Ensure training and coaching necessary to perform basic job duties; give recognition and direct constructive feedback; hold regular meetings with team members to support their performance; perform annual performance reviews; and maintain documentation as per organization standards.
  • Lead all family workshop debrief sessions, document outcomes, manage follow-through and ensure improvements are made
  • Actively solicit positive and constructive feedback from supervisor and other team members
  • Build a strong, outcomes-focused performance culture within the team

Support Sustainability

  • Gather and accurately report program data for local and national sustainability efforts
  • Help prepare for and attend meetings with funders and potential funders as needed
  • Partner with other program staff to cultivate school-based PowerMyLearning champions who are excited to help the organization further its mission

Other duties as necessary, including attendance at evening and Saturday program events as needed during the school year (approximately 12-15 times) with comp time to be used the following week



  • Passion for PowerMyLearning's mission
  • Bachelor's degree
  • 3 years' experience in program management
  • Experience managing full- or part- time staff
  • Experience with educational technology
  • Proven organizational and problem-solving skills
  • Demonstrated experience leading large presentations and/or training sessions
  • Very detail-oriented with strong writing skills
  • Strong relationship or "people" skills, including proven experience managing relationships with highly experienced professionals
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and with minimal oversight, but also takes direction well and is eager to meet or exceed performance goals
  • Capacity to thrive under pressure while working on multiple tasks and projects
  • Ability to set priorities for self, team and peers, and adjust when priorities change
  • Proficient using all Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, and Outlook


  • Bilingual in English and Spanish
  • Experience working with public schools and/or districts
  • Experience working with low-income communities
  • K-12 teaching background
  • Experience with STEM concepts and programming
  • Experience in event management and/or planning
  • Proficient in Salesforce (customer relationship management platform)
