Position Purpose:

The Character Education program at the Markkula Center for Applied Ethics serves a broad range of educators in traditional and alternative public schools, faith-based schools, supplemental programs in parishes, and after-school programs. We aim to build a future where vibrant social and emotional experiences and ethical thinking will be seamlessly integrated into the regular school day and youth enrichment programs.

The Program Manager in Character Education is responsible for day-to-day management of the character education programs, including registration of new subscribers, technical assistance to existing subscribers, as well as the maintenance of character education resources.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

1) Management (60%)

i) Manage the character education curriculum development for integration into English language arts.

ii) Manage relationships with Character Education clients and prospective subscribers.

iii) Manage the workflow of the Character Education Program.

iv) Develop a marketing and communications plan for informing current and prospective subscribers about our resources and services.

v) Organize curriculum and lesson plans information for principals, teachers, and parents.

vi) Manage the registration process of program subscribers.

vii) Create and manage work agreements with contractors.

viii) Monitor the success of communications with current and prospective subscribers and propose improvements to the communications process.

ix) Be a leader in customer management.

x) Help ensure flawless collaboration with schools, districts, and after-school programs.

xi) Plan and manage events.

xii) Plan, manage, and monitor the development of MOOCs and other online resources.

xiii) Contribute to the development of strategic goals for the Character Education Program and to the ongoing innovation and growth of the Ethics Center’s efforts.

2) Editing and Writing (30%)

i) Support decision-making around curriculum development.

ii) Edit lesson plans for English language arts and social studies instruction.

iii) Edit articles about topics in character education.

iv) Write marketing materials, such as blog posts.

v) Write reading comprehension assessments for elementary and secondary schools based on lesson plans.

3) Presenting (10%)

i) Create PowerPoint presentation slides for presentations.

ii) Present in webinars and workshops in professional meetings.

4) Other duties as assigned

3. Maintains contact with customers and solicits feedback for improved services.

Researches and develops resources that create timely and efficient workflow.

5. Prepares progress reports; informs supervisor of project status; and deviation from goals.

6. Ensures completeness, accuracy and timeliness of all operational functions.

  • Familiarity with education, developmental psychology or a related field.
  • Familiarity with curriculum resources for literacy, social studies, and social and emotional learning.
  • Familiarity with the education sector and its issues.
  • Skills/Abilities:
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively with multiple people in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent writing, editing, and formatting skills.
  • Excellent Microsoft Office skills.
  • Video editing using a software such as Camtasia desirable.
  • Education and/or Experience:

    Education

    Bachelor’s degree required Years of Experience

    Minimum 3-5 years of related experience
