Position Description

The Program Coordinator will play an integral role in implementing PowerMyLearning's family engagement and public library programs in Los Angeles. These programs are aimed at helping students and families harness the power of digital learning both inside and outside the classroom.

The Program Coordinator will collaborate with the Senior Manager, Family Engagement to coordinate family workshops, maintain successful relationships with PowerMyLearning's partner schools, and implement high-quality events that will engage more students and parents to create positive touch points between the families and schools to extend learning outside the classroom. The Program Coordinator will assist with staffing, scheduling, outreach, and logistics of Family Workshops and with special projects as assigned by the Senior Manager, Family Engagement.

The Program Coordinator will also play a key role in executing PowerMyLearning's library programming in partnership with the Los Angeles Public Library. Part-time staff members (Student Zone Helpers) work after school in specific library branches across the city and provide engaging opportunities for students to access the library's digital resources as well as PowerMyLearning's expertise and resources. The Program Coordinator will manage recruitment, hiring, onboarding, and payroll for our Student Zone Helpers as well as manage the collection and reporting of impact metrics for our library programming.

The Program Coordinator's place of work will be split between PowerMyLearning's office in downtown Los Angeles, our warehouse/help desk location in downtown Los Angeles, and our partner schools throughout the Los Angeles area. This position reports to the Senior Manager, Family Engagement.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Lead PowerMyLearning Programs to Yield Outstanding Results

  • Manage the implementation and logistics of PowerMyLearning's family engagement events including planning, outreach, and preparation of materials
  • Maintain accurate records of family engagement events
  • Facilitate family engagement workshops as needed in English and Spanish
  • Manage workshop volunteers
  • Coordinate data collection for family engagement and library programming
  • Coordinate Los Angeles Public Library partnership, including recruitment, hiring, and onboarding of Student Zone Helpers
  • Manage part-time payroll processing
  • Other duties as necessary, including regular attendance at Saturday and weekday evening program events during the school year with comp time to be used the following week

Support Sustainability

  • Gather and accurately report program data for local and national sustainability efforts.
  • Assist in regional efforts to engage more teachers, schools and partner organizations in our work each year.
  • Understand and communicate the mission, strategic plan. and theory of change to staff, clients, funders, and other stakeholders

Ensure a High-Performing Team

  • Actively solicit positive and constructive feedback from supervisor and other team members. This includes managing up by being proactive and keeping supervisor and PowerMyLearning leadership informed of changing priorities
  • Work collaboratively with other team members to achieve overall team goals and actively engage in cross-regional collaboration and share best practices
  • Provide region leadership to contribute to a strong culture based on PowerMyLearning's Cultural Values.

CANDIDATE QUALIFICATIONS

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Fluency in Spanish (oral and written)
  • Passion for PowerMyLearning's mission
  • Experience working in low-income communities
  • Exceptional public speaking skills and excellent writing skills
  • Extremely detail-oriented and meticulous about even small details
  • Proven problem-solving skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and with minimal oversight
  • Capacity to thrive under pressure while working on multiple tasks and projects
  • Exceptional relationship-building skills
  • Demonstrated flexibility when priorities change
  • Proficiency using Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Available to work Saturdays and weekday evenings (with comp time to be taken the week following any weekend workshops)
  • Access to reliable transportation

Preferred:

  • Teaching or school-based experience

Compensation will be competitive and commensurate with experience. PowerMyLearning also offers medical and dental insurance with an employee contribution.
