Professional Learning Manager

Computer Science Teachers Association - Chicago, Illinois or Remote - Full time

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Refine and implement a comprehensive strategy to support the ongoing professional learning of CSTA members to develop their content knowledge, pedagogical knowledge and skills, and inclusive teaching practices in alignment with the 2020 CSTA Standards for CS Teachers. This strategy includes:
    • Annual conference: support the conference committee in developing the annual call for proposals, identifying and soliciting sessions to create a balanced program, and planning keynotes
    • Quarterly summits: set the theme and develop the program for three virtual, day-long summits per year
    • Monthly webinars: design a schedule of one or more professional learning series webinars or short events per month
    • Online modules: develop about three 2- to 4-hour online PD modules per year
    • CSEdWeek: develop resources and events to support teachers in inspiring, advocating for, and celebrating K-12 CS education during CS Education Week
    • Chapter in a box: develop templates for professional learning activities that can be implemented locally by CSTA’s growing networks of chapters
    • CSforEL: refine, facilitate, and support PD to support teachers in effectively supporting the achievement of English learners in AP CS Principles courses
  • Support the implementation of professional learning:
    • Facilitate PD directly to CSTA members and chapter leaders.
    • Identify, recruit, coordinate with, and support experts to design and facilitate PD.
    • Partner closely with CSTA events and marketing/communication staff to project manage, market, and support successful implementation.
  • Disseminate and support the widespread use of CSTA student and teacher standards, and represent CSTA at conferences and events.
  • Manage the process to validate alignment of curriculum to the CSTA K-12 Computer Science Standards, including training reviewers, refining the process, and communicating with curriculum providers.
  • Develop other standards-aligned educational content and resources for use in teachers’ classrooms and CSTA chapter meetings/events.
  • Performs other duties as assigned, including managing or coordinating with volunteer committees and member communities.

Experience & Qualifications

  • Commitment to and success in addressing issues of equity in CS education.
  • Experience teaching K-12 computer science.
  • Experience providing professional development to K-12 teachers; experience with computer science teachers is a plus.
  • Ability to engage teachers in conversations about equity, inclusion, and anti-racism, across different cultures, backgrounds, and identities.
  • Commitment to engaging in CSTA's efforts towards embracing diversity, being purposefully inclusive, and addressing anti-racism in CS education.
  • Ability to manage a project with responsibilities shared across internal and external team members; ability to work effectively when under pressure and with tight timelines; flexibility and ability to continuously improve methods and procedures.
  • Strong communication skills; comfort with speaking to groups and presenting information.
  • Proficiency in working with the Google and Microsoft Office suites and ability to quickly learn how to use other communication and productivity tools.
  • Ability and willingness to travel up to 15% time. (All travel costs are covered by CSTA.)
  • Ability and willingness to shift work schedule to support or manage professional learning in afternoons, evenings, and weekends to accommodate teacher participants.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience designing and facilitating teacher professional development focused on equity and inclusion.
  • Deep knowledge of the CSTA K-12 Computer Science Standards and the CSTA Standards for Computer Science Teachers.
  • Experience with developing curriculum.
  • Experience as a CSTA chapter leader or similar leadership role in an organization for K-12 teachers.

Salary Range: $70,000 - 75,000 per year
