Professional Development Specialist (Non-Profit)

Next Gen Personal Finance - Palo Alto, CA - Full time

Founded in 2014, Next Gen Personal Finance (NGPF) is a non-profit that reaches over 20,000 teachers and 2 million middle and high school students with an engaging, hands-on personal finance curriculum and best in class teacher workshops. We’re on a mission to ensure that all students take a personal finance class before graduating from high school. We want to move from a society where adults often say “this is a class that I wish I had” to one where they say “that’s a class that I’m glad that I had.”

To achieve this goal, we create free high school curriculum, conduct free teacher professional development workshops, and contribute to personal finance advocacy efforts. We are looking for a passionate and energetic professional to scale our professional development efforts and support teachers.

The Role

As a Professional Development Specialist, you will run NGPF teacher training initiatives which include FinCamps (one-day workshops), FinCamp+ (three-day workshops) and conference sessions around the country. Our FinCamps have received rave reviews (avg. score of 9.8/10 from participants) with many participants telling us “Best PD I have experienced in my career.” This role is critical in allowing us to continue to expand this successful program. Additionally, you will engage with and support our community of teachers individually via chat, email, phone and in larger groups using our virtual PD options.

The position will be based at our office in downtown Palo Alto just off University Ave, within a 7 minute walk to Caltrain.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Co-plan, organize, and deliver 1 or 3 day training and professional development (PD) workshops for personal finance educators
  • Communicate teacher feedback gleaned from workshops to NGPF team members focused on curriculum and teacher engagement
  • Analyze data to make recommendations on how to improve our teacher PD offerings
  • Contribute ideas on how we can continue to support educators in new ways
  • Extensive travel to conduct PD workshops (up to 40%)
  • Provide support to teachers who may need assistance with or have questions about NGPF curriculum
  • As-needed tasks which contribute to the achievement of the NGPF’s overall goal


  • 3+ years of school (K-12) classroom teaching experience
  • Strong and engaging public speaker with excellent presentation skills
  • Experience leading teacher PD sessions/workshops
  • Mission-oriented with desire to increase access to personal financial education for all
  • Proven ability to work successfully and autonomously in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision
  • Flexibility to take on additional tasks that are outside the job description and advance our work
  • Highly organized with great attention to detail
  • Willingness to frequently travel around the country
  • Sense of urgency when completing critical tasks
  • Bachelor’s degree
