Production Specialist

Center for the Collaborative Classroom - Alameda, California - Full time

Center for the Collaborative Classroom is a nonprofit, educational organization dedicated to providing continuous professional learning for teachers and curricula that support the academic, ethical, and social development in children.

The Production Specialist provides complete composition support for Collaborative Classroom’s educational programs and marketing collateral, including teacher’s materials, student-facing trade books, ancillaries (such as workbooks), catalogs, and brochures. Even though this is not a design position, creative problem solving skills are a must. The Production Specialist must have an intimate knowledge of composition, typography, basic design, and pre-press techniques as well as careful attention to detail.

Responsibilities:

  • Creates InDesign templates and style sheets, or repurpose existing templates, to lay out text and
  • images for print or digital products.

  • Build new licensed trade books as needed: prep art, research fonts, build templates and resulting
  • pages, implement rounds of corrections, and generate print PDFs. May include converting and

    updating legacy files from other publishers to current InDesign file formats to create CCC versions.

  • Implement and review complex reprint corrections for text and some art for all programs.
  • Work closely with the Manufacturing Department to determine final file needs and schedules.
  • Name, manage, and archive files according to CCC conventions, including making low-res cropped
  • versions of print products for other departments to use as needed.

  • Work closely with the Art Director, and cross-functionally with the Operations, Licensing, and
  • Marketing Departments.

  • Support the Publishing Department in refining CCC’s processes to ensure ongoing quality and to
  • maximize efficiency.

    Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field
  • At least 3 years experience in print production
  • High degree of proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite, MS Office, and Google
  • Superior Mac OS skills
  • Thorough understanding of the print production processes for one-, two-, and five-color
  • publications

  • Familiarity with pica, pixel, and millimeter measurement systems
  • Solid time management, planning, and organizational skills
  • Ability to juggle multiple projects, tight deadlines, and shifting priorities while maintaining a
  • collegial attitude
