Product Owner - eduCLIMBER - remote

Position Overview

As a Product Owner, you will lead the gathering, development, and direction of business/functional requirements and design of our software platform and integration with other Illuminate products and external education systems. You will write user stories, manage the backlog and project plans, and provide overall leadership and management of our usability and technical requirements and acceptance criteria. This position will be part of the Product team and report to the Senior Director of Product Management of Data Visualization and will partner with Product Managers along with other POs, Engineering and QA team members, and UI/UX Designers. Overall, this role is part of a team, but it also holds substantial feature design and product leadership opportunities and responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Become an expert on the eduCLIMBER and Achievement Dashboard applications.
  • Work with the Product, and Engineering/QA teams to define business & functional requirements, designs, and stories, including driving internal working sessions across the teams.
  • Present feature requirements, design, and stories to architects and engineers through story grooming and planning sessions.
  • Facilitate analysis of alternatives, provide recommendations, and generate innovative ideas to resolve problems.
  • Provide user story and requirements consultancy throughout the development and test cycles of the project.
  • Manage the Scrum team priorities based on business input.
  • Work closely with the engineering team to assure a timely solution according to the specifications, project plans and implementation of business needs.
  • Handle complex issues and discrepancies of opinion among stakeholders to negotiate resolution and priority.
  • Develop and maintain a repository of product documentation to be shared with the stakeholder community, including requirements documentation, use cases, UI mock-ups, test cases, requirements traceability matrix, etc.
  • Participate in the daily scrums and retrospectives, lead sprint reviews and refinement processes.
  • Maintain and promote excellent communications within the Sprint teams and with the Product Management team.
  • Work cross functionally with other Product Owners and their Scrum teams to facilitate communication and planning for projects involving multiple teams.
  • Participate in regular communication with other Product Owners to facilitate best practices, and implement process and tool improvements.

Desired Experience & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, communication, computer science or equivalent technical and work experience.
  • 1-3+ years work experience as a Business Analyst or Product Owner.
  • Experience with software development projects and methodologies.
  • Excellent written, interpersonal, and presentation communication skills to effectively influence and interact with all levels of the organization.
  • Attention to detail, good organizational skills, and ability to handle tasks of high complexity.
  • Must possess strong analytical skills and have the ability to take a large topic and break it into smaller components.
  • Independent, self-directed and responsive problem solving and troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to resolve and remove obstacles to a project’s completion.
  • Experience translating research and ideas into requirements.
  • Ability to facilitate and perform data driven decision making.
  • Proven track record of delivering quality products within aggressive timelines.
  • Experience in K-12 Education Assessments is desired.
  • Working knowledge of Atlassian products.
  • A sense of humor and humility.

Minimal travel required – may include up to 10% of travel.
