Product Manager

Office of Academic Innovation, University of Michigan - Ann Arbor, Michigan - Full time

Job Summary

The Office of Academic Innovation at the University of Michigan needs a creative, detail oriented individual to collaborate with our other product managers and our software portfolio manager to grow adoption of our home grown educational technology tools. This role is also an opportunity to work with schools and colleges at the University of Michigan to identify alignment between their strategic priorities and academic innovation, define the vision for products at those intersections, and work closely with experts in many domains to bring that vision into reality. The Product Management team reports to the Director of Strategic Initiatives and collaborates with colleagues across the Office of Academic Innovation to design and iterate new and existing products and to develop frameworks for describing our work to our diverse stakeholders.

You

Are an active listener that can synthesize what you hear into a digestible framework. You enjoy taking an ill-structured problem, right-sizing it and building skills or relationships to answer that problem. You are very comfortable facilitating discussions amongst diverse groups of all sizes and can stay positive even when encountering resistance. You are thoughtful about what makes a delightful learner experience. You have an entrepreneurial and collaborative approach to your work and a passion for higher education. You pursue context relentlessly.

You thrive in an environment where new opportunities and questions pop up in unexpected places and you get to work on a team trying to answer those questions as they take shape. You take tremendous pride in your work, but ownership of a project isn’t critical to you; you are happy to let initiatives go as they mature. You have a strong service-orientation and take a user-centered approach to the design of new programs and products. You think impractically before layering in constraints. You love learning and are intensely passionate about making educational products that are engaging and effective for all learners.

You likely have had consulting experience, perhaps in higher education, but just as likely in other sectors. You have experience identifying user needs, scoping complex problems, and designing and creating something new to help an organization realize its potential. You have deep intuition and passion for what makes a great higher education product and a desire to help the great public research university achieve our vision for the future.
