Product Manager

ASCD - Alexandria, Virginia or Remote - Full time

POSITION SUMMARY

The Product Manager is responsible for successfully supporting and growing the library of professional development courses for the association’s online learning management systems. This position adds value to the organization by working with colleges and universities to become ASCD academic credit providers.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Researches and analyzes requirements of proposed new online learning products.
  • Organizes, acquires, and constructs new online learning courses and activities.
  • Organizes and schedules ad hoc production teams while adhering to production timelines.
  • Tracks cost and work with internal and external resources to ensure that channel content is delivered on time and within budget.
  • Tests learning and digital product prototypes, upgrades, and enhancements with customers.
  • Manages and performs quality control activities.
  • Supports the sales team and other partners in product demonstrations.
  • Provides production information and cost estimates to inform budgets.
  • Works with colleges and universities to become ASCD academic credit providers.
  • Evaluates processes and protocols to streamline and improves efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and quality.
  • Tracks and reports production status, and product statistics and trends.
  • Manages contracts and maintains contracting files.
  • Secures and documents content and talent permissions for use in various product platforms.
  • Creates measurable definitions of “done” for products.

QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge

  • A four-year college degree in a relevant field of study is preferred.
  • Expert knowledge of product development and project management methodologies.
  • Conceptual understanding of Web 2.0, social networking, LMS platforms, and other online technologies.
  • Knowledge of PreK–12 and postsecondary education trends, as well as industry best practices in virtual professional development learning environments, is a plus.

  • Ability to apply sound judgment in decision-making and problem solving, and when making recommendations for process improvements.
  • Ability to pay close attention to detail and proofread work products to maintain high-quality standards.
  • Ability to learn and use new technology and information systems in an environment of constant change.
  • Ability to learn and use web-based office applications for online collaboration, document/content management, and intranet management.

Experience

  • Five or more years of product development and project management experience in a complex work environment.
  • Experience in the education field or online content delivery industry.
  • Experience in managing projects, including knowledge of new product line development, scheduling, budgeting, and quality control.
  • Experience leading teams is a plus.

  • Daily contact with internal and external customers, vendors, colleagues, associates, supervisors, and managers at all levels of the organization.

  • Ability to perceive and inspect records in a document management system.
  • Ability to see in color.
  • Ability to operate general office equipment.
  • Ability to travel to off-site meetings up to 10%.
