Position Overview

At Illuminate, we are committed to building the very best products to support educators and improve student outcomes. In this position you will lead the product strategy and develop product roadmaps and priorities for one of Illuminate flagship assessment and data platforms, DnA. Leveraging an understanding of edtech assessment and reporting, along with product management experience, you will ensure products are designed based on research and customer needs. You will take a collaborative and data-driven approach to defining product requirements, determining metrics and tracking user-feedback cycles to gauge usage and success. You will lead the communication and readiness for new product releases and inspire cross functional teams.

We’re seeking an individual with a wide variety of skills who has the unique ability to shift from portfolio-wide strategic topics to team leadership to execution of tactics, as well as excellent communication and collaboration skills with stakeholders inside and outside the company.

Key Responsibilities

  • Product strategy. The PdM will develop a sound product line strategy, including product definition, partnering and integration strategies, positioning, pricing, and communication. You will build business cases and justify investments.
  • Product planning and launch management. The PdM will develop a deep understanding of the product and customer needs and translate them into roadmap priorities and requirements. You will partner with the UX, engineering, and content teams to define requirements, prioritize needs and oversee those teams to execute on the development and design efforts. The PdM is responsible to train, ready, and support external-facing teams.
  • Revenue support. This role will work with sales, services, support, pre-sales and marketing to strategically support activities that will drive new business and enhance the satisfaction and retention of existing accounts.
  • Manage key metrics. Collect, analyze, interpret, and form action plans on key product line metrics to stakeholders.
  • Market knowledge. Focus on building products based on a thorough understanding of K-12 educators and student base. Maintains a deep understanding of the market and competition based on a synthesis of appropriate data, including: primary and secondary market research, customer feedback, sales and market data, product evaluations, services feedback and industry network.
  • Educator feedback. Lead efforts to gather educator and student feedback for products from concept and through development and rollout.
  • Clearly communicate rationale for prioritization, challenges and solutions.
  • Ability to manage the product within the context of the broader Illuminate portfolio.
  • Serves as a leader on the product team to share, define and implement product management best practices.
  • Able to represent the company during customer meetings and at conference and industry events.

Desired Experience & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, education, computer science or an equivalent field.
  • 3-5+ years of experience in edtech software product management.
  • 3+ years of experience interacting with customers, strategic partners and cross functional groups to understand market and business needs.
  • Experience with agile product methodologies and has developed artifacts such as user journeys, story maps and product roadmaps.
  • The successful candidate will thrive in an environment that encourages experimentation, obsesses over product users, measures success based on outcomes and fosters collaboration to solve problems.
  • Able to research key market trends and product usage to make strong product strategy recommendations based on quantitative and qualitative analysis.

  • Ability to travel (eventually) up to 30%.
