The Product & Portfolio Manager reports to the SVP of Product & Portfolio Management and contributes to a wide range of projects focused on building, reimagining, and driving the development of new digital learning products for our K-12 online schools. The work will set strategy for our portfolio and products, analyze growth drivers, develop business cases, and model financials. The role is also responsible for providing objective, data-driven insight and analysis into key product and portfolio issues and opportunities. You will also work with senior leaders across Pearson’s business units.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Support the OBL Executive Team in defining the strategy for our portfolio and articulating where we will compete and how we will win; identify the implications of the strategy on our products and services supported by quantitative and qualitative analyses
  • Identify and track key market trends (e.g., industry dynamics, competitive threats) and internal opportunities that can drive growth for OBL’s portfolio of products & services
  • Provide analytical and qualitative support for regular Product Council meetings where we greenlight product investment requests, semi-annual Portfolio Council meetings where we allocate resources, and frequent Leadership Team updates
  • Support and coach Product Management teams as they monitor the performance of OBL’s products & services across the product lifecycle and with respect to financial outcomes, efficacy metrics, and customer satisfaction
  • Partner with product management, product development, sales and marketing, service, and technology leadership teams to resolve strategic issues and drive product strategies
  • Be a thought leader and innovator within OBL generating new product ideas based on market insight
  • Lead the development of dashboards and performance reporting, while ensuring data governance and integrity.

  • Relationship Management
    • Keep abreast of industry trends, technologies, and competitive analyses to identify new opportunities and initiatives which ultimately serve the long-term product strategy
    • Build deep expertise and empathy for the customers and learners that use our curriculum, services, and software products
    • Develop rapport and trust with business owners and key stakeholders
  • Business Management
    • Lead and support continual process improvement by proposing optimizations for any aspect of the pricing capability
    • Work with Finance partners to monitor adherence to budget including capital and non-capital expenses.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree (MBA preferred) or equivalent work experience
  • Strategic mindset with proven analytical and quantitative skill sets
  • Comfortable with ambiguity yet driven to make sense of a complex world
  • Fluency in strategic frameworks and other forms of strategy analysis in a complex, changing industry
  • Ability to frame business issues and communicate goals clearly to executives and cross-functional teams alike
  • Ability to lead cross-functional teams in converting strategic guidance into execution
  • Ability to work from home or during off hours as necessary.

In addition, the ideal candidate will have:

  • Management consulting background
  • 2-4 years of related work experience in strategy roles
  • Experience in the education sector.
