About the Partnership Director role:

The Partnership Director is responsible for building out and delivering results with DCPS district and school leaders. The Partnership Director will be providing training, coaching and support to school leaders and school leadership teams around key Turnaround practices and tools, leading to demonstrated practice change. At the school level, the Partnership Director will assist school leadership teams in conducting diagnostic assessments of each school’s environment and student development practices, identifying high priority areas for improvement and managing the implementation process for the priority changes. The Partnership Director models a unique set of implementation strategies and provides consultation and coaching to school leaders to promote the use of these strategies in their school improvement initiatives. The Partnership Director will have significant experience in school leadership and will also be skilled at designing and delivering high-quality adult learning experiences. Finally, the Partnership Director will support the Executive Director, Washington D.C., in managing the relationships with our school system partners, including assisting the Executive Director in designing and facilitating system level trainings and partnership engagement activities. The Partnership Director will be part of a larger team of program staff and will receive ongoing training and support from the Turnaround team.

What you’ll do:

  • Adapt existing Turnaround tools and content to deliver high-quality, compelling and effective training sessions to school leaders and other educators that lead to necessary changes in practice at the school level
  • Assess partner schools against Turnaround’s recommended practices and coach school leadership teams through the process of selecting and implementing key areas of improvement
  • Ensure a regular feedback loop to share learning, provide expert input on tool development and ensure alignment with Turnaround’s theory of change
  • Cultivate strong, purposeful relationships and establish trust and credibility with all school leadership team members and client leaders to better leverage influence and support
  • Facilitate, along with school leaders, the creation, implementation and progress monitoring of an Annual Work Plan for each participating school aligned to Turnaround’s recommended practices and the unique needs of each school
  • In partnership with the Applied Science team, facilitate school-wide data collection in a variety of metrics, using assessment data to provide real-time results that will be used to offer targeted support to school leadership teams as well on-going tracking and evaluation of program implementation at current and future schools
  • Participate in the ongoing development and refinement of the Turnaround model
  • Support business development efforts as needed (e.g. presenting to potential clients)
  • Represent Turnaround by maintaining consistent communications with school leaders, client organizations and the Turnaround leadership team to ensure awareness and confidence in Turnaround’s work and its impact
  • Design and facilitate consulting sessions with central office/school system leaders in partnership with the Executive Director
  • Trouble-shoot potential barriers to program delivery and implementation across sites and effectively problem solve toward solutions

  • Relationship building and influencing: You have experience building and maintaining meaningful, trusted relationships with diverse internal and external stakeholders, motivating them to connect with Turnaround’s mission and impact.
  • Storytelling and effective communication: You are an effective communicator, especially in how you deliver trainings, and you are motivated to share Turnaround’s content so that we can reach more schools across the country.
  • Project management: You can juggle multiple work streams, manage aggressive deadlines and execute effectively with implementing thorough systems.
  • Flexibility and innovation: You are adaptable and open to changing course as needed to support the team in reaching goals and you are constantly looking at how to improve your work and support the organization in reaching impact
  • Mission alignment: You demonstrate an authentic commitment to and belief in Turnaround’s mission, vision and values.

About you:

You’ll be successful in this role if…

  • You have a track record as an innovative and experienced school or district leader who has mentored and supported a diverse team of adults toward significant change initiatives, preferably within charter and district schools in an urban education setting
  • You are an experienced change facilitator in the context in which Turnaround operates (low-performing, high poverty urban district schools) and you have demonstrated your ability to successfully navigate and overcome barriers present in these environments
  • You have designed and delivered effective adult learning activities
  • You have successfully planned and managed complex, long-term projects
  • You have a demonstrated track record of effective communication with stakeholders and partners through non-profit, district, or system-level collaboration
  • You bring experience creating powerful data stories and progress monitor towards outcomes
  • Fluency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) with comfort in designing PowerPoint presentations and Word tool and templates to support training activities
  • You have a relevant Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree a plus

  • Status and location: This is a full-time, exempt role based in Washington D.C. which requires travel to partner schools across DCPS. Ability to travel 1-2 times per month to the New York headquarters.
