Position Summary:

The Online Learning Specialist, leads content development for KQED’s online professional learning platform focused on media literacy for educators in formal and informal educational settings, supports the development of online training in support of KQED Education products, and contributes to the fulfillment of the overall vision of KQED Education.

The Online Learning Specialist will support educators in the utilization of public media for teaching and learning through the development and use of online tools and resources. A leader and innovator, this position will support the integration of media and technologies into in- and out-of-school educational environments based on extensive knowledge of current trends as well as expertise in the intersections of media literacy education with science, arts, and civics curricula.

Essential Functions:

1. Supports ongoing development, design, and implementation of KQED’s online learning platforms for teachers and students.

2. Creates content for online lessons and courses focusing on effective use of digital media technologies in the learning environment.

3. Supports the design, creation and implementation of online courses, online learning resources, and other online learning activities for teachers and students.

4. Provides direct support and instruction in digital media technologies to teachers and other participants through mediation of online lessons, courses, and professional learning community.

5. Develops and implements community management and engagement strategies directed at educators designed to create a safe and supportive community of learners, encourage the completion of professional learning courses or activities, and facilitate implementation of classroom resources in their learning environment.

6. Coordinates and/or collaborates with Outreach and Engagement Manager regarding social media, newsletter, and other marketing activities to support online community engagement.

7. Assists with and advises on the production of media content for online learning courses including script development, as well as video, graphic, animation, and interactive elements.

8. Communicates user voice and needs and advises on production topics and media formats to ensure relevance to teachers and students.

9. Contributes to evaluation activities associated with products and services produced by KQED Education.

10. Manages pilot tests, focus groups, and user testing for online learning content in coordination with the Learning and Evaluation Manager.

11. Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge/Experience Required:

1. Demonstrated experience in successful project design and management.

2. Demonstrated experience in design and development of online learning platforms.

3. Demonstrated experience in interactive media design

4. Demonstrated experience in curriculum development and teacher professional learning.

5. Accomplished in developing and deploying online outreach and engagement strategies.

6. Demonstrated experience with integrating media and media-based technology tools into teaching of content for formal or informal education contexts.

7. Demonstrated knowledge of Common Core State Standards, media literacy and 21st century skills in teaching and learning.

8. Experience in addressing the specific learning needs of English Language Learners.

9. Skilled at engaging diverse adult learners online10. Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills and follow-through capabilities.

11. Excellent oral and written communication as well as presentation skills.

12. Ability to work effectively with colleagues and educational partners.

13. Commitment to educational equity for all students.

Knowledge/Experience Desired

1. Teaching credential and/or master’s degree in education.

2. Experience in project supervision, including budget development and management.

3. Demonstrated experience in video and media production.
