About the Role

In order to truly personalize learning, educators must meet students where they are while also sequencing knowledge in a logical and contextually relevant way. The goal is to understand a student’s unique learning needs, reaching back to previous grade level material in order to fill knowledge gaps, and moving him or her towards important grade-level standards (and beyond, when possible). Students in Teach to One: Math progress through mathematical skills and concepts in a nonlinear way that is both scaffolded and cohesive. Each student’s progression is driven by his or her own individualized curriculum, a unique curriculum that we build for every student.

In this role you will help tailor the decisions needed to develop the progression path for each student through his or her own individualized curriculum. Leveraging your deep understanding of a Common Core aligned curriculum, and your experience with how students can effectively move through this curriculum, you will manage the implementation of the academic progression strategy for the students whom we serve - ensuring that every student is experiencing his or her own individualized curriculum in a cohesive, scaffolded, and rigorous way. You will also collaborate with your colleagues on the Academic Design Team on how to further develop and improve this academic progression strategy, which drives which mathematical skills a student will experience next. Your efforts will be instrumental in the personalized learning movement and our quest to continue to meet students where they are.

About You

  • You are someone who loves the complexity and intricacies of mathematics
  • You are someone who enjoys creating authentic and engaging learning experiences for students
  • You are someone who has a strong understanding of how mathematical skills are connected and build off of each other
  • You are a self-directed, self-motivated learner who is comfortable asking questions when you are learning something new
  • You are someone who likes to make sense of complex data

What You Would Do

  • Contribute to the improved design of student progression components and processes
  • Define and set up school specific strategies for periodic transitioning of learning units, strategies tailored to how each student in the school is progressing through his or her individualized curriculum
  • Ensure the quality and integrity metrics at the student and school level, throughout each of the learning unit transitional periods. These metrics seek to find the optimal balance between individualized curriculum advancement, mathematical cohesion of instructional experience, and grade-level student groupings
  • Work with the Academic triage and consultation with the Scheduling Operations and Technical Product departments for individual or cohort level student progression exceptions or anomalies during (i) periodic transition of learning units and (ii) daily lesson scheduling activities. Advise on and/or perform correction to the exception(s) and anomalies
  • Monitor and analyze academic progression strategy implementation at the student and school level throughout the year, ensuring that students advance through their individualized curriculum in a balanced manner.
  • Make data informed corrections to progression implementation for individual students or whole schools as needed.
  • Identify where progression algorithms could be improved, based on post-launch monitoring and analysis
  • Propose solutions to how the progressions algorithms could be improved, once issues have been identified
  • Address product bugs or school-submitted concerns (tickets) related to student progression

What We Are Looking For

  • Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s Degree in education, curriculum design, or related field preferred
