Managing Director, Programming and Production

WHO WE ARE SEEKING:

A new Managing Director, Programming and Production. In this role you will serve as a key member of the Events & Experience divisional leadership team, you will collaborate across the organization to ensure organizational experience goals are met. As the Managing Director, Production & Programming you will be responsible for developing event & community objectives and learning strategies that deliver vibrant & transformational community experiences, position organizational priorities and products in both online and in person events, and support an innovative community of educators and industry leaders. The position leads a team of professionals in a variety of content and production areas, ensuring an integrated and cohesive experience for event & community participants. This position plays a strategic role in the creative development of new events and year round learning series, and serves as a collaborator across the organization to ensure organizational experience goals are met.

WHAT YOU WILL DO:

Leadership

  • Serves as a key member of the division leadership team, contributing both role-specific input/expertise and general managerial leadership to help guide division-wide strategy and decision-making.
  • Serves as the leader of the division content team, responsible for overall programmatic success across all conferences, summits, webinars, and online events.
  • Manages direct reports and budgets; provides a climate for motivation and innovation; supports positive working relationships with direct reports; establishes effective teamwork and collaboration practices; openly supports the organization’s direction, strategy, and employee programs; and is accountable for adhering to and upholding all applicable employment laws and the organization’s operating protocols.

Content Leadership

  • Leads the division-wide content team in developing and executing programming plans that balance community, organizational, partner, and industry content for successful event offerings.
  • Using data, community input, and organizational priorities, develops event content strategies that are highly relevant and continually evolve with audience needs and innovations from the field.
  • Collaborates with the senior director of community programming on juried content, new content formats, year round content, and community volunteer recognition.
  • Collaborates with the senior director of organizational programming on internal strategies to highlight organizational content, products, and goals.
  • Leads development and execution of new learning initiatives, developing criteria for format lifecycle and strategies to continually refresh offerings and introduce innovative new programming.
  • Develops partner event strategies in close collaboration with the managing director of experience engagement.
  • Offers advice to sponsors on their programming at NewCo events and deliver event insights that help support their success at our events.
  • Supports executive team sessions with industry partners and may manage contractors or internal staff on session development.

Production

  • Leads the production team in developing strategies to wow and delight participants, both in person and in virtual programming.
  • Responsible for overseeing mainstage production, related production assets, and multimedia offerings that are highly engaging, creative, and related to event theme and goals. Oversees the invited speaker team with input from the content team, the community, and executive leadership.
  • Professional Knowledge and Analysis
  • Contributes to the organization and Experience team with strategic analysis and recommendations of event trends
  • Evaluates key data from events (evaluations, attendance, and feedback) and recommends comprehensive programming plans that incorporate feedback and modifies processes to adopt promising practices as appropriate.
  • Keeps abreast of the professional learning field to enhance and grow NewCo programs, products, and services.

WHAT MATTERS TO US:

  • Five or more years of experience in an educational or appropriate business environment with a focus on professional learning, conferences, meetings, and events is required.    
  • A four-year college degree in a relevant field of study is preferred.
  • Deep knowledge of current trends in professional learning.
  • Working knowledge of the K-12 education market is preferred.
  • A high-level understanding of the program and product development process is required.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of traditional and virtual conferences as well as associated and emerging technologies for large-scale meetings.
  • Knowledge of and experience with different delivery systems and their potential for impactful professional learning.
  • Knowledge of AV production and presentation enhancements such as video, entertainment, and keynote programming.
  • Knowledge of technology and applications for collaboration, information sharing, and document management systems.
  • Strong leadership and supervisory skills to motivate, direct, and support internal staff and external volunteer and contractor teams.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to negotiate effectively with internal and external stakeholders
  • Technical and analytical abilities to analyze complex sets of data, manage budgets and logistical processes, and continuously improve our event practice.
  • Ability to communicate in a professional, respectful, and courteous manner with all employees, the Board of Directors, customers, and others with whom we may work.
  • Strong technology skills, particularly in Google Docs and Microsoft Office, collaboration and virtual meeting tools, and event technologies.
