On average, U.S. students are with substitute teachers for 5% of the typical school year. That means our students have substitute teachers for more than six months of their K-12 school career. The problem? We're suffering from a national shortage of substitute teachers.Swing Education is focused on taking on the substitute teacher shortage. We make it easy for great schools and quality subs to find each other. We help schools access more subs and offload tedious work (recruiting, screening, payroll, etc.) and we help subs find jobs, gain experience and build their professional network. Swing is a revenue generating, Series B, YC company.

The Position:

As Growth Talent Manager you will be an essential part of the growth of the Swing Education marketplace by building a quality pool of satisfied and motivated teachers for the Northeast territory. You will innovate on current strategies to scale our conversion, onboarding, activation and support of substitute teachers. This will include conceiving, planning and executing projects that help meet or exceed our goals in new and existing regions. We are looking for someone who is passionate about supporting schools and teachers and brings an analytical and persistent approach to the challenges presented by growing at scale.You will report to the Director of Talent and will work cross functionally within your region with Customer Success, Sales, Marketing, and the General Manager to ensure we meet the needs of our partner schools. We are expanding quickly and need someone who thinks creatively, iterates quickly, and engages collaboratively to lead the projects and experiments that will help us exceed the expectations of subs and schools in our market.This position is based in San Mateo, CA and will require 10-15% travel. 


Substitute pipeline and onboarding

  • Expand regional applicant pipeline through career fairs, conferences, and recruiting sessions.
  • Cultivate regional partnerships to increase the number of quality leads and resources for onboarded substitutes at scale.
  • Collaborate with Product to improve upon current onboarding process, increasing conversion and activation rates while reducing customer acquisition costs.

Substitute activation, engagement and retention

  • Experiment with and drive new strategies to optimize the experience and retention of subs - including articulating experiment goals, success criteria and other potential impacts.
  • Collaborate with regional team members, including Sales and General Managers, to ensure positive customer service experience for teachers and schools.
  • Coordinate regional events promoting sub happiness and development.
  • Analyze experiments and where successful, implement into existing processes.

Regional leadership and support

  • Refine and monitor regional growth levers, targets and success metrics for Talent and align Talent goals/metrics with Sales pipeline.
  • Utilize sub pipeline and conversion data on onboarding speed, activation rates, and engagement to inform regional strategy and create and execute on plans that support the strategy.


  • Bachelor’s degree required, and 3-5 years of work experience.
  • Proven ability to think analytically and use data to inform strategy and solve complex problems.
  • Enthusiastic, entrepreneurial style, eager to take initiative in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Outstanding time management skills, able to understand and prioritize different activities, detail-orientation, multi-task, accomplishing numerous tasks and changing priorities in an effective and timely manner.
  • Excellent communication and demonstrated ability to work cross-functionally.
  • Good judgment and the ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
  • Commitment to diversity and inclusion in engaging varied pipelines of teachers and working with teams from diverse backgrounds.
  • Experience in education, project management, or recruiting preferred.
