The Role

The Manager of Program Continuum Strategy & Operations will play an integral role in ensuring that corps members, alumni and partners, are invested in our mission. In this role, you will build personal relationships with incoming corps members and help them understand and meet expectations and deadlines to begin their training and start teaching in Oakland. You will lead a wide range of projects to ensure our team has the data, tools, and systems necessary to operate efficiently and at peak performance. You demonstrate unusual attention to detail, a highly-developed ability to anticipate and solve problems, and a knack for learning and building new systems. Your awareness of and desire to build inclusive cultures will drive your work – you will prioritize initiatives to ensure our corps members and alumni continuously strengthen their bonds to each other and our community.

The Team

The Bay Area team has set a clear mandate to harness our unique community assets—unparalleled intellectual, human, technological, and financial capital—to rethink our organizational approach, striving to build the next generation model for Teach For America and for teacher and educational leadership development. For 25 years Teach For America has been a critical force in creating classrooms and schools that are bucking the status quo for low-income students. And yet, our very best schools nation-wide are still facing a reality where fewer than 50% of students are on a path to college or meaningful post-secondary options. While an impressive shift, we know that we must think differently to realize our aspiration of every kid having the opportunity to fulfill their potential. When successful, we believe that our redesign will be a catalyst in creating the leadership force to rethink classrooms and schools and break beyond the 50%. Currently in our third year of redesign, we see clear indicators that what we are doing is working. From top quartile increases in corps member experience metrics to increased demand for our teachers, our optimism about the innovations we are making and the tangible results we are starting to see is palpable. We are continuing to make strategic investments, learn from the wins and the misses, and evolve our thinking to ensure we accelerate the path we are on.

ResponsibilitiesIncoming Corps Member Onboarding and Hiring (40%)

Provide an exceptional onboarding and hiring experience for our incoming corps members, ensuring that they are exceptionally well positioned to start the school year strong with their students

Team Richmond Support (20%)

Oversee and monitor all data systems

Track budget to actual expenses, pay bills, manage credit card accounts and reimbursements, oversee staff expenditures and reimbursement submissions, and make recommendations for budgetary strategy

Actively cultivate a team culture that fosters collaboration, appreciation, and celebration generally and through event support (i.e. birthdays, holiday parties, and happy hours)

Manage the Richmond office by creating and maintaining efficient systems for space upkeep, technology, mail, water, and supplies; work closely with regional and national colleagues to anticipate and answer ongoing logistical needs

Internalize Team Richmond's vision, priorities, and strategies and provide support and thought partnership to the Richmond Community Lead as needed

Provide administrative support to the Richmond Community Lead, including but not limited to calendar management, travel arrangements, expenditure processing, and prep for team meetings

Communication and Community (15%)

Support strong communication internally within the Teach For America – Richmond community and externally, with our community partners

Support driving towards one of the strongest corps cultures in the country

Events and Logistics Support (15-20%)

Manage logistics for and in some instances set vision for culture and oversee execution for Team Richmond events, including but not limited to corps member trainings and events


Prior Experience

Minimum 3 years of work experience.

Teaching experience preferred.


Bachelor’s degree required; graduate degree preferred.

Work Demands

Based in Richmond, but must be able to travel regularly around West County and occasionally to the other Bay Area offices (Oakland, San Francisco, San Jose).

Ability to work evenings and weekends as necessary; overnight travel is minimal.
