Manager, Professional Development Design, Science

Amplify - Multiple Locations or Remote - Full time

Amplify is seeking an experienced education leader who has designed and delivered professional development for school- and district-wide audiences and has led programmatic change across a school or network of schools. 

The Manager of Professional Development Design, Science will collaboratively lead the development of professional learning materials for Amplify Science with teammates on our Science Professional Development team, aligning on priorities for development, managing a development work plan, directly developing content and integrating feedback, coordinating with PD Operations to ensure session materials are on track, and ensuring the successful training of Professional Learning Specialists on new content. The Manager of Professional Development Design, Science will also directly facilitate sessions for schools, in service of gaining first-hand experience with how our materials are received and as business needs arise. The ultimate goal of this work is to support high-quality science instruction in classrooms and the successful expansion of Amplify Science by designing rich and rigorous professional learning experiences and ensuring our team is prepared to deliver them.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop compelling in-person, remote, and online professional development sessions and resources for teachers, instructional leaders, and district leaders to support strong implementation of Amplify Science.
  • Work collaboratively with, review, and provide feedback on the work of Amplify Science PD team members who lean in to develop select sessions or materials.
  • Develop and manage content development work plan after aligning on priorities with PD team. Ensure professional development projects are tracked in project plans and are completed on time, on budget, and with visibility about status.
  • Incorporate feedback from multiple sources, including Sales, Content/Product, district requests, post-training reports, and internal colleagues when considering new session offerings and refining existing session content.
  • Collaborate with the Content and Product teams to understand upcoming program releases and incorporate into training programs and assets.
  • Collaborate with external partners, including the Lawrence Hall of Science, on PD development.
  • Assess impact and effectiveness of trainings by analyzing feedback from PD participants, PLSs, and internal colleagues. Incorporate feedback to continuously strengthen session content and the scaffolds and supports for trainers within the session materials in order to ensure high-quality delivery at scale.
  • Develop resources and deliver trainings to PD team leaders and Professional Learning Specialists to ensure internalization of session content.
  • Clarify and communicate project objectives and success criteria to internal and external stakeholders, as well as track and communicate project status, issues, risks, and decisions.
  • Develop PD collateral to support internal and external understanding of Amplify Science’s PD offerings.
  • Write professional development proposals for RFPs, including recommended offerings and approaches.
  • Lead and support other professional development projects as team needs arise.
  • Directly facilitate trainings to schools as business needs arise.

Basic Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of K-8 science classroom teaching experience
  • 2+ years of K-8 teacher and/or administrator coaching experience
  • Experience (at scale) designing and delivering professional development sessions and helping educators adopt new practices.
  • Experience collaborating with and influencing senior level staff internally, whether across a school network, district, or state education agency.
  • Experience managing large-scale projects in an education setting, including planning and budgeting.
  • Demonstrated ability to multitask, prioritize, and manage multiple competing priorities
  • Experience analyzing data and using it to inform practice
  • Regional and National travel required
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Science-specific Instructional Leadership and/or Curriculum Development experience
  • Experience teaching the Next Generation Science Standards and/or coaching teachers teaching the Next Generation Science Standards
  • Experience teaching and/or supporting implementation of Amplify Science
  • Master’s Degree of Education
  • Biliteracy a plus (Spanish)
  • Demonstrated proficiency of technology integration in workshops and in the classroom
  • Demonstrated proficiency in use of technology-based productivity tools such as Microsoft, Google Applications, etc…)
