The Opportunity

The Manager of Analytics will lead the effort in building advanced reporting and analysis capabilities that offer deep insight into student progress and outcome-related data, presenting it to APDS’s clients in meaningful ways that support their decision-making related to programming and education. Reporting directly to the Director of Product and working closely with the product and engineering teams, the Manager of Analytics will ensure that APDS remains the leader in using data to drive better outcomes for incarcerated and justice-involved learners.

As APDS is growing, we are looking for an experienced analytics leader who will roll up their sleeves and achieve the following outcomes:

  1. Develop and refine data visualizations and dashboards resulting in deep insight into student progress and outcomes
  2. Present data visualizations, reports, and dashboard to clients that tell a meaningful story of the data that provides insights that result in actionable changes to programming which, in turn, lead to positive outcomes for students
  3. Build reporting and analytics infrastructure by working with engineers to ensure that APDS’s data architecture and reporting infrastructure meets our reporting needs and has the appropriate tooling for data analysis and visualization


  • Build an in depth understanding of APDS’s data platform and understand our customer’s specific operational and personal development data needs that program administrators and educators seek regarding student engagement and progress in order to design and build a suite of reporting, analysis, visualization along with natural language processing and other data tools that are easy to use
  • Build data dashboards that visualize student data providing a 360 degree view of of student progress
  • Present data reports / dashboards to internal and external stakeholders, gather feedback, iterate, and refine the reports based on that feedback
  • Conduct analysis of APDS student data to uncover meaningful insights around student progress, engagement, and outcomes
  • Work with engineers to evolve APDS’s data architecture to meet our reporting requirements that are scalable and efficient
  • Incorporate relevant tool sets for data analysis, reporting, and visualization
  • Collaborate deeply with Product, Sales, Business Development, and Support teams to transform the vision and requirements into easy-to-use and insightful solutions

Qualifications and Experience

  • 3+ years of data analysis and reporting experience building data visualizations and reports that are easy to understand, present relevant information, and provide actionable insights
  • Strong analytic, qualitative and quantitative data analysis skills with demonstrable ability to break down complex problems into phased deliverables with strong attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated track record of translating questions and data needs from non-analytical users into insightful and concise analyses and presenting those findings to internal and external stakeholders
  • Fluency with Tableau (or relevant data visualization tool)
  • Demonstrated experience working with engineering teams to ensure that data is collected in the right way that enhances reporting capabilities
  • A self-starter who can chart out a course of action based on various inputs and work in a fast-paced environment that is highly responsive to APDS’s customers
  • Excellent communication (verbal and written) skills
  • Belief in APDS’s mission to reduce recidivism and improve the life chances of incarcerated learners and returning citizens

Location and Travel

  • New York City or remote.
  • Travel: 4-6 times per year to meet with APDS customers. Additional travel may be required for applicants outside of NYC.
