Emerson Collective (EC) is dedicated to removing barriers to opportunity so people can live to their full potential. Established and led by Laurene Powell Jobs, we center our work on education, immigration reform, the environment, and other social justice initiatives. We use a wide range of tools and strategies–partnering with entrepreneurs and experts, parents and policymakers, advocates and administrators –to develop and execute innovative solutions that will spur change and promote equality. We believe technology has the potential to help make education more engaging, effective, inclusive, and equitable. Our education technology team seeks out mission-driven companies and organizations that share that belief and demonstrate the potential for breakthrough results. We invest in those ventures and partner with them to accelerate their growth and impact.

The Role

We are seeking a new addition to our ed tech team to enable us to better support our growing portfolio of ed tech companies. The position will help portfolio companies identify and measure impact, drive go-to-market initiatives that will help portfolio companies attract and retain users, and foster collaboration across the portfolio to share best practices for achieving growth and impact. While this role focuses on post-investment services, the Manager may also participate in sourcing and evaluating new investments as is feasible. Specifically, the Manager will:

  • Create opportunities for companies to share effective solutions to overcome critical barriers.
  • Design convenings in which experts share high-impact strategies to benefit portfolio companies.
  • Develop “playbooks” that will help companies go to market in key states and districts.
  • Build programs that help companies engage more effectively with education decision-makers.
  • Help companies move toward increased evidence of effectiveness.
  • Develop strong relationships with companies in order to keep enhancing our support services.
  • Initiate and take on other special projects.

Required Qualifications

  • You’re passionate about improving education, particularly K-12 education in the US.
  • You have worked for 3+ years in education technology or adjacent areas.
  • You love learning new things, and learn quickly and independently.
  • You’re creative and resourceful when solving problems or completing tasks.
  • You have exceptional organization skills and always follow through.
  • You have strong analytical skills and enjoy working with data.
  • You thrive in entrepreneurial, dynamic environments.
  • You like taking on new projects with little direction, and adjust course quickly in response to feedback.
  • You respond to projects and tasks with enthusiasm and a sense of possibility.
  • You’re an exceptional communicator, both spoken and written.
  • You can communicate complex information clearly and concisely.

Ideal Qualifications

  • You understand the US education system, and policy and funding dynamics shaping the market.
  • You understand how schools and districts make purchasing decisions.
  • You have experience successfully managing partnerships or accounts.
  • You enjoy conceiving projects, but also driving them through to completion.
  • You have worked for a school or district, or an education company, non-profit, or investor.
  • You are comfortable presenting and facilitating, and are a clear communicator.
  • You have experience in – and passion for – measuring impact.

This position will be based in Palo Alto, California. Periodic travel is required but will generally not exceed 20%.
