Learning Spaces Supervisor

Holy Names University in Oakland, CA is seeking a Learning Spaces Supervisor.

The Learning Spaces Supervisor is a full-time position funded by a Title III grant for 4 years. The Learning Spaces Supervisor will help create and implement a university-wide vision for formal and informal learning spaces that promote and support technology-enhanced active learning.

Reporting to the Associate Dean of Teaching and Learning, the Learning Spaces Supervisor is responsible for managing the design, installation, and maintenance of HNU’s learning spaces as well as the training of faculty, staff and students using these spaces. The Supervisor works collaboratively with staff in IT Services, the Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning, Campus Services, and external partners to shape learning space strategy and ensure that leaning spaces are operating effectively and serving the needs of the campus community.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF POSITION:

  • Consult with academic leadership, faculty, and students on the design of learning spaces and integration of technology. Ensure that designs are sustainable, usable, and meet user goals.
  • Develop and implement instructional resources and training programs for faculty and students on classroom-based technologies, digital platforms, and computer applications.
  • Research, evaluate, and provide recommendations on learning space concepts that promote active learning and student engagement.
  • Manage learning space upgrade projects through the project lifecycle including requirements gathering, RFP, bid selection, developing milestones, delegation of tasks, tracking budget, communications, and ensuring quality.
  • Manage budgets and track learning space technology, tools, furnishings, and other assets.
  • Collaborate with the Registrar's Office on scheduling of classrooms to match facilities and pedagogy and to ensure effective classroom utilization.
  • Manage day-to-day classroom and computer lab operations, including processes for maintenance and technical support services. Communicate with service vendors and verify successful repairs.
  • Stay abreast of trends in instructional technologies and support and collaborate with faculty seeking to experiment with emerging technologies.
  • Hire, train, schedule, and supervise a team of students who will staff the learning spaces helpline.
  • Provide technical support for faculty in person, over the phone, or via web conference. Work with IT, CETL and Campus Services staff to identify issues that can be proactively addressed with documentation and training.
  • QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum requirement: Bachelor’s degree in any field required.
  • Preferred: Bachelor's degree or higher in Instructional Design, Education, Media Design, Communication, Computer Science, Information Systems, or technology-related field.
  • 2+ years of experience in IT, instructional design, or media services-related field (within higher education preferred).
  • 2+ years of experience providing training or professional development for adult learners (higher-ed or K-12 setting preferred).
  • Experience managing technology projects, operations, and/or staff.
  • Knowledge of AV and emerging instructional technologies and their appropriate application to teaching and learning.
  • Knowledge and experience with media creation/editing.
  • Understanding of learning space design concepts.
  • Knowledge of best practices in the delivery of support services in teaching and learning.
  • Knowledge of active learning pedagogy and student engagement.
  • Knowledge of project management principles.
  • Strong problem solving and technology troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to gather and analyze data analytics, survey data, and other data points to drive decision making.
  • Strong service orientation and demonstrated success in developing and maintaining good working relationships with faculty clients, partners, and vendors.
  • Excellent written, oral and digital communication skills.
  • Highly organized and able to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Experience teaching in higher education or K-12 a plus.
