We’re looking for an experienced curriculum architect with a passion for inquiry-based social studies and deep understanding of high quality instructional materials. In this role, you will work closely with a team of curriculum designers, assuming a leadership responsibility for analyzing and mapping K-8 state standards, and organizing, evaluating and managing the development of social studies curriculum.
Role:
- Ensures and maps alignment of content to state standards in Social Studies across a national landscape, and English Language Arts Common Core standards.
- Applies curriculum development expertise to setting criteria and building frameworks for developing and evaluating rigorous, inquiry based, standards aligned curricula.
- Ensures strong alignment between standards shifts, scope and sequence, and assessment items as well as vertical and horizontal alignment in social studies resources.
- Creates detailed timelines for each project; assesses and tracks project progress regularly, using various programs and tools; drives project completion by holding others accountable for responsibilities and deadlines.
- Anticipates, identifies, and resolves complex obstacles to ensure success of overall curriculum programs as well as specific projects.
- Designs, reviews, and provides highly detailed feedback for curriculum projects in all stages of development.
Requirements
Qualifications
- Experience as a social studies curriculum designer and reviewer across elementary and secondary grades in a managerial role.
- Experience in project management, specific to large-scale curriculum development projects
- Strong managerial skills and ability to give and utilize both quantitative and qualitative data and feedback to drive product iteration
- Strong understanding of and proven success with rapid iterative design process
- Strong understanding of inquiry-based curriculum design
- Deep knowledge of state social studies standards and trends across a national landscape in grades K-8
- Strong research and writing skills
- Extreme attention to detail, including skill in evaluating clarity, consistency, and alignment
- Meticulous organizational ability in order to set priorities, organize workload, handle multiple responsibilities and meet ambitious deadlines.
- Ability to thrive in a fast paced, feedback driven environment in circumstances involving ambiguity and nuance.
- Knowledge of second language acquisition in the curriculum content areas preferred.
