POSITION OVERVIEW

Lead Teachers will be responsible for mentoring, coaching and developing a Teacher Resident. Each Lead Teacher will be assigned a Teacher Resident and will manage the Resident’s weekly schedule to ensure that the grade level has the appropriate student support via push-in support, pull out groups and successfully subbing for teachers across the grade level when needed. Alpha lead teachers will consult with members of the school leadership team throughout the year in order to continue improving academics and student/staff culture across Alpha. As the organization continues to grow, they will have influence over and share responsibility for professional, organizational, and instructional development. They will be responsible for mentoring new teachers, leading professional development, monitoring staff culture, and improving academic outcomes for Alpha students. Lead teachers will take on additional responsibilities and work additional hours in support of their colleagues and the organization. Implemented effectively, the lead teacher role will provide participating staff the opportunity to grow professionally and to support the professional growth of others. From time to time, lead teachers will have additional responsibilities that occur during prep periods and before or after school.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

● Lead Teachers will participate in NAATE (National Academy of Advanced Teacher Education), pending program enrollment availability

● Twice a year, reflect and self evaluate Lead Teacher performance on the Leadership Rubric categories ○ Instructional Leadership

○ People Leadership

○ Community Leadership

○ Culture Leadership

● Participate in regular coaching meetings in order to improve one’s practice as a coach for Teacher Residents

● Develop and lead a professional development module once per trimester

● Engage Resident in informal performance reflections based on observations of instruction and student work

● Work with colleagues to use data to promote changes in instructional practices and organizational structures to improve student learning 1 ORGANIZATIONAL LEADERSHIP (GLCs + LTs)

● Operate as a liaison between the leadership team and teaching staff by attending School Leadership Team Meetings, as requested, and sharing the teacher’s point of view around organizational issues/topics/decisions

● Professionally and proactively address issues related to staff culture directly with teachers and seek counsel from the leadership team as necessary

● Model effective skills in presenting ideas, leading discussions, managing conflict, and proactively addressing concerns related to students, parents, teachers, and the organization

● Strive to create an inclusive staff culture

● Meet administrative deadlines and expectations required of teachers

● Assist Alpha’s recruitment team with the recruitment and selection of school based staff, especially new teachers

● Meet and collaborate with other Grade Level Chairs + Lead Teacher

INSTRUCTIONAL COACHING & DEVELOPMENT

● Promote instructional strategies that improve student learning and personalization

● Serve as a mentor for novice teachers and your grade level assigned Teacher Resident

● Provide weekly observations, coaching, and feedback sessions to your grade level assigned Teacher Resident

● Guide the Teacher Resident to learn and practice the foundations of teaching: student behavior management, lesson planning, instructional delivery, etc.

● Watch bi-weekly coaching sessions that involve watching your coaching videos and reflecting on your practice as a coach. Use the Lead Teacher Coaching Rubric to guide and improve performance as a coach

● Consult on instructional decisions made by your school’s leadership team

● Regularly share best practices with grade level team, other teachers and Teacher Resident

● Serve as grade level leader with respect to long-term planning, scope and sequence, curriculum development and curation

● Use knowledge of existing and emerging technology to help staff better meet the instructional needs of students

● Pilot programs and assist staff with the rollout and implementation of various initiatives
