LEAD DATA SCIENTIST

SPEDx - Atlanta, GA - Full time

SPEDx

SPEDx is on a mission to help students with learning, behavior, and attention issues attain the most extraordinary successes in school and beyond. We do that through data science--uncovering insights that accelerate students’ progress and creating ingenious products and services that bring these insights to scale. SPEDx is a new Atlanta-based startup looking for curious and brilliant individuals to join our founding team. Together, we’ll help create a world where disability status is unrelated to have having great success in life--and have a fun time doing it.

Lead Data Scientist

The Lead Data Scientist is a key position in our growing organization and is responsible setting our data science strategy and building a team of data scientists powerhouses. The ideal candidate is motivated by solving challenging, seemingly intractable problems through his or her analytical prowess. Our candidate naturally questions conventional wisdom and the status quo and sees possibility where others simply cannot. He or she is a gifted storyteller, adept coder, super boss, and expertly skilled in data aggregation and cognitive computing.

Who You Are

You’ve had experience working in a start-up environment, are extremely comfortable with ambiguity, and yearn to build something great from nothing. You bring at least seven years experience in big data, data aggregation, and software development. You know how to strike a strategic vision and attract others to it quickly. You lead others by being in the trenches along with them--doing the work and operating from a strengths-based perspective. You view delegating responsibility as a way to foster learning and self-development rather than just being efficient. And, you are obsessive about meeting performance goals. You are able to work fluidly with other teams and go out of your way to obliterate siloed work and thinking. You’ve been successful at building applications, but know your true passion is in deep data science work. You relish in working with unstructured, messy data and you probably use “munging” regularly in conversation. You’ve may have had some experience with projects in population health, biomedical trails, national security, or education. Lastly, you have a high-degree of cultural competence and a strong, personal connection to people with disabilities.
