Lead Content Engineer

The Lead Content Engineer reports to the Senior Manager, Content Engineering. This role is responsible for helping to envision and enact the shape, structure, and organization of educational content assets - optimizing them for adaptation, personalization, and reuse. It also supports the Foundations team – leading the operationalization of the strategy and roadmap for content management, authoring, and tools that enable product, technology, learning, and outcomes strategies and approaches.

This role works as a peer leader within the Content Engineering function and may also be responsible for daily coaching and management of vendors and variable contractors that support overall content engineering initiatives.

Here's what you'll do:

  • Support the translation of product and technology strategies into a content engineering strategy that enables outcomes by envisioning and enacting the shape, structure, and organization of smart and accessible content assets.
  • Partner to develop and maintain a learning architecture that underlies Edmentum’s products.
  • Apply graph architecture and design competencies to show connections between the content ecosystem and learning platform.
  • Partner to develop and maintain a metadata structure for content assets to increase searchability and organization.
  • Apply the principles of schema and topology to content assets to define standard vocabularies and track assets and containers.
  • Implement and maintain optimized, accessible, and consistent content structures and templates aligned to learning and assessment design needs.
  • Operationalize the strategy, roadmap, and overall lifecycle for content management, authoring, and tools. Support the design and development by identifying associated requirements and conducting user acceptance testing.
  • Partner to build and implement necessary workflows and enhancements within content authoring and tools that result in business optimization and
  • Develop a deep knowledge and understanding of Edmentum’s content assets, management, authoring, and tools. Lead training and documentation as needed.
  • Query content databases and build dashboards to enable data-driven decisions across the Product organization.
  • Collaborate closely with Product and Technology leadership and teams.
  • Work with external partners and vendors that advance the content engineering strategy.
  • Utilize software development lifecycle and the product development lifecycle.
  • Leverage Lean and Agile methodologies in work.
  • Lead focused cross-functional initiatives.
  • Conduct large group trainings.
  • Work with onshore and offshore vendors.
  • Additional duties as assigned.

Here's what you'll need:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Education, Engineering, Software development or comparable field
  • 5+ years’ experience in educational technology, content development focus preferred
  • 2+ years’ experience in engineering or software development
  • 1+ years’ experience leading cross-functional, virtual teams to solve complex problems
  • Some experience in managing or working with external vendors preferred
  • Deep knowledge of educational technology programs and understanding of the technical requirements for associated content assets
  • Understanding of information architecture, user heuristics, prototyping tools, and approaches
  • Advanced knowledge of HTML for text formatting and LaTeX for equation formatting
  • Experience of writing database queries and building dashboards
  • Technology native – ability to work on multiple digital platforms and understand how content fits together
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Careful attention to detail
  • Strong creative, critical thinking, and presentation skills
  • Exceptional organizational and time-management skills
  • Positive and high-energy attitude, with proven experience working in fast-paced environment
  • Flexibility and willingness to learn
